Call to Order/Welcome

Section Chair, Nancy Engler, welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 5:55pm. Melaney Davis motioned to start the meeting; and Chip Lamb seconded the motion. The meeting proceeded with the following discussion:

Review of and Audit 2016 Financial Data

Mike Suwala, Treasurer reported there is no formal signed quarterly financial report that is required by ASQ anymore.

Section Financial Quarterly update: Collected $127.00 in membership dues and recertification fees

The section did not spend any money for this quarter.

ASQ gmail account:

Vikki Gossen would like to create an ASQ gmail account. This account may be used to store section information and may be a tool to send out information to the section without having to use personal email addresses. The password for this account will be “globalvoice”. Susan Woodard will be attending the ASQ Leader training and may ask how to go about making an account like this qualify for a non-profit (cost savings).

Agenda

Item #1:

  • 2016 Financial Audit is due Feb 15, 2017 (note: the current/past Chair not the current/past Treasurer cannot sign it)
  • Former Treasurer, Mike Suwala brought the 2016 statement. Viki Gossen reviewed and signed it. Mike Suwala and Nancy Engler signed as well. Mike to mail the record and provide a copy to Nancy.
  • The mailbox key held by Melaney Davis was handed over to Nancy Engler (Box 11586)
  • Suggestion to rent a small box to save money (current cost of $170.00/month)

Item #2 (Minutes from last meeting):

  • Nancy Engler requested a volunteer for a Program Chair
  • Nancy reminded that Engineer Day is in February and will follow-up on it
  • Melaney Davis mentioned programs (found suggestions on ASQ web)
  • Pre-recorded Webinars listed member leaders in the Knowledge Center
  • Chip Lamb has meeting with Norval on how to do group meetings between the two chapters
  • Viki Gossen mentioned the creation of a survey on activities
  • Nancy Engler asked if anyone was interested in doing a workshop on Six Sigma and has a contact to be a presenter>Viki to add this question to her survey
  • Viki Gossen suggested to put a link to job descriptions on our home Webpage
  • Melaney Davis made a motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting and Viki Gossen seconded the motion

New Business

Item #1 (2017 Chapter Event Brainstorming):

  • Nancy Engler to make arrangement for the Engineering Banquet planned in February, and mentioned there was an ISO class held 1/26/17 at CVCC and the class was full
  • Melaney Davis stated Progress Printing agreed to host a tour; and suggest a visit to the Liberty University Osteopathic Medical Department
  • Chip Lamb mentioned the two events that were popular last year were the two Round Tables (with one being held at Delta Star), and also stated he could host an event at his office at the beginning of May and a lumber line would be set up in the shop
  • Jason Moser said he has two contacts @ Frito Lay
  • Nancy Engler suggested the chapter could attend a sporting event at a Hill Cats game in April, and suggested a tour of BMS
  • Jason and Viki suggested a visit to WSET again
  • Mike Suwala and Nancy Engler suggested a visit to a radio station-Mike agreed to contact WLNI
  • Viki Gossen suggested the following: a visit Gleaning for the World-Nancy agreed to check if this is possible; visit to the Center of Technology on Rt. 460-Nancy to contact Bob Bailey; a visit to the Lynchburg Humane Society; a hike on the Appalachian Trail as a Spring or Fall activity; a mixer for the ASQ members; and suggested student scholarships

  • Currently there is $2346.68 in checking and $4, 845.19 in the CD

Adjournment:

A motion was made by Chip Lamb to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Melaney Davis. All were in favor with none opposing. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30p.m.
