The E & J Gallo Winery currently employs more than 4,600 people and markets its wines throughout the U.S. and over 90 foreign countries, making it one of the largest winemaking operations in the world. The grapes for our wines are grown and harvested in all of California’s important wine-producing regions and represent only the very best in quality. The product portfolio is also diverse, encompassing virtually every form of the winemaker’s art from fine table and sparkling wines, to distilled, wine-based spirits and beverage wines. The Winery has been active in Sonoma, California, for more than 70 years and its Healdsburg facility includes two, third-generation family members —Matt and Gina Gallo. Gina is a third-generation winemaker and her brother Matt oversees the Sonoma and Napa vineyards

The Management Development Program

Our highly selective Management Development Program (MDP) is focused on college graduates of diverse backgrounds who demonstrate talent, leadership, and potential. While the MDP career path may eventually lead to assignments in international sales and marketing, brand management, training and recruiting, and finance, the primary purpose is to develop candidates for increasing responsibility in two functions:
Field Marketing Management -- The management of Gallo sales activities through local distributor organizations.
Trade Development -- The management of sales, merchandising, and marketing activities through major regional, national, and international trade channels including grocery, drug and club store, restaurant and hotel chains.
Due to state regulation and the structure of the alcoholic beverage industry, execution of these functions can vary significantly from state to state. As a consequence, training requirements and initial training experience will vary by market. Our training is intense and thorough. The flexibility of our training and development program provides the necessary job skill bridge from college campus to professional growth and fulfillment.
The development path to Field Marketing or Trade Development success is typically a three-phase program:
Phase I - Distributor Sales Representative
Phase II - District Sales Manager
Phase III - Retail Field Marketing Manager, Trade Development Manager or Fine Wine and On-Premise Field Marketing Manager
