Position Title: StoutReach Specialist

Logistics:

  • Operation: Involvement Center,Office of CivicEngagement andService
  • Pay Range Classification: $8.25 per hour, State Payroll or Work Study
  • Range of Possible Scheduled Hours: Weekdays; some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Average Time Commitment:5-10 hours per week

Description:

The StoutReach Specialist will join a team of students lead by a professional staff engaged in encouraging civic engagement and service opportunities by coordinating partnerships between service organizations, UW-Stout students, and the community at large. This includes (but is not limited to) maintaining communications with established volunteering partners in the community, managing and promoting service opportunities and events at UW-Stout, and continuing to expand our volunteering network.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skilled at problem-solving, in possession of solid organization skills
  • Demonstrated solid people and team-member skills
  • Familiarity with StoutConnect (formerly OrgSync)and other social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Understanding of the importance of extra and co-curricular experiences to the enhancement of a university education

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of (or sincere interest in learning) the dynamics of civic engagement and service
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer service and other aspects of civic responsibility and/or social group membership advocacy and education
  • Successful experience with or knowledge of marketing/advertising/promotion of events and programs
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal skills; comfortable speaking in front of a variety of groups
  • Ready to bring new ideas for engaging events for students and service partners
  • Responsive to a variety of learning styles

Who is StoutReach?

StoutReach is a program coordinated by the Involvement Center and StoutReach Specialists at UW-Stout. It is designed to provide students with opportunities for meaningful service and learning activities at a local, state, national, and international level. StoutReach helps students grow through experiences outside the classroom and in their communities to be active leaders, stronger citizens, and caring community members. It's the ideal program to get involved with if you are interested in community service and outreach!

General Responsibilities:

Be the bridge between students and valuable opportunities for service and civic engagement.This position provides assistance in coordinating the partnership between volunteering organizations (local, state-wide, national) and UW-Stout to enhance knowledge of civic engagement and service opportunities available for students and the community at large.

Specific Duties:(This is a general and broad list of responsibilities from which specific individual duties will be assigned based upon individual interests and department needs):

  • Meet with supervisor and/or team leader on a regular basis
  • Maintain connection and communication with StoutReach service partners
  • Be the bridge between students and valuable opportunities for service and civic engagement
  • Manage community partner’s StoutConnectpages including promotion of events and service opportunities, volunteer applications, and information updates as needed
  • Initiate outreach efforts to seek continual partnerships with service organizations, including local, state-wide, and national
  • Assist with the development and implementation of department-sponsored events that promote student volunteering and community partnership (i.e. Volunteer Fair)
  • Collaborate with SSA and other student organizations to share sponsorship of campus events/activities related to volunteering (e.g. Fall Yard Cleanup, Holiday Giving Tree)
  • Maintain connections to student organizations that are seeking volunteer-related opportunities and/or wish to promote their individual service event to the general student body
  • Share responsibility for development of displays and promotional/outreach efforts that support civic engagement and service
  • Other duties as assigned in relation to the scope of responsibility for this role
