Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the reproductive organs of goats.
Evidence requirements
1.1 The structure and function of male and female reproductive organs are described in relation to scrotum, testes, epididymis, spermatic cord, sex glands, penis, ovaries, oviduct, uterus, cervix, vagina, vulva, and general conformation.
1.2 Developmental stages of reproductive organs from immature to mature are described by age.
1.3 Types of abnormality and disease which disrupt mating are identified and their effect on reproductive organs outlined.
1.4 The methods and purposes of castration are identified in relation to surgical, ring, chemical, cryptorchid, prevention of mating, and inhibition of secondary sex characteristics.
1.5 The method and purpose of vasectomy are described for bucks.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of the reproductive process of goats.
Evidence requirements
2.1 The reproductive stages and cycles are identified in terms of oestrus, ovulation, mating, conception, gestation, parturition, and anoestrus.
2.2 Artificial methods used for reproduction are identified and their function within reproduction outlined in relation to heat induction, semen collection, artificial insemination, and embryo transfer.
2.3 The role of hormones in the reproductive process is described in relation to where hormones are produced, effects of hormones, oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
2.4 The importance of nutrition in livestock reproduction is described in relation to results of under-feeding and over-feeding and vitamin deficiencies.
2.5 The importance and methods of oestrus detection are described in relation to behavioural signs, physical signs, teasers and detection aids.
Outcome 3
Demonstrate knowledge of the features and attributes of goats.
Evidence requirements
3.1 Main breeds of goats are named and differentiated by their physical characteristics.
3.2 Classes of livestock within the main breeds are identified.
3.3 Features and attributes of breeds are identified in terms of those which are productively significant or contribute to ease of management.
Outcome 4
Demonstrate knowledge of the types of animal identification and record-keeping for goats.
Evidence requirements
4.1 Methods of animal identification and recordkeeping are identified which correspond to industry practices.

4.2 The functions of the different types of livestock records kept are identified in terms of their contribution to livestock mating and breeding.
4.3 The merits of different types of animal identification are identified.
