RT In House Programming (IHP) REQUEST

PROCESS –Customer owned parts return to SoC for IHP (COIHP)

Microsemi offers Customer Owned In-House Programming (COIHP) as an optional service for customers who do not wish to program units themselves, allowing the return of RT units for programming that have been purchased as blanks. Customers have the option of programming parts on their own if this service does not meet their requirements.

  • NOTE: Requests/Orders for customer-owned IHP, and/or expedites for such, will not be available during the last three weeks of any fiscal calendar quarter. Please contact Customer Service if you are unsure of when these weeks occur.
  • Customer submits online request for RT products via website
  • Requests cannot be submitted manually
  • Link is emailed to Customer to upload their file directly to Microsemi SoC secure In-House Programming (IHP) server
  • IHP Server is protected by two physical switches and two firewalls

Q. When do I send the purchase order for the IHP charges?

A. A PO for the IHP charges will be required prior to the RMA approval being issued that authorizes the return of the units (RMA approvals will still be required before the customer can return units).

Q: I am ready to place an order for new parts which require IHP prior to shipment; however, my design file is not quite ready. Can I submit the order even if I do not have the file yet?

A: We will accept orders for parts where the design file is not ready on an exception basis ONLY. In the case of an international ITAR licensed order, we MAY allow the customer to submit the order in advance (to allow us to start the Export License process). The order will be scheduled when the export license is received, and the blank non-programmed parts will ship if no IHP request is received 2 weeks prior to shipment. Note that we cannot pre-assign part numbers.

Q: How long does it take once a Customer IHP file is loaded to get a programmed part number?

A: The standard turnaround time for this is 2 to 4 business days; this is not guaranteed.

Q: I received my RMA number and have sent back the parts for IHP. How long before we can receive the programmed parts?

A:Microsemi will make every best effort to support a maximum lead time of 96 hours*for (programming attempts) of quantities of up to 5 units per IHP order; the lead time clock starts upon receipt of a clean IHP form, IHP program, and units. Please note that there are more steps involved in the COIHP process other than the programming of the units. As per our standard policy on all orders, Microsemi does not provide milestones for COIHP lead-time. For orders greater than 5 units, the line item will be split; the clock restarts upon completion of the first 5 units, not in parallel.

*Please note that COIHP is performed during the day shift (8 hours), Monday - Friday only, by qualified personnel. Hours indicated above are based on Monday – Friday day shift hours only.

Q. Is there an expedite fee for IHP to have the units programmed quicker than lead-time?

A. Yes.An expedite fee of $10,000 can be paid in addition to the programming charges, if a turnaround time of 48 hours* is required.

The conditions are as follows:

  • Lead-time is 48 hours* upon receipt of a clean IHP form, IHP program, and units
  • The fee applies to programming attempts of up to 2 units
  • This fee does not guarantee successful programming of 2 units (Note – customers are encouraged to return additional units to cover any programming fallout)
  • Upon receipt, approval of the order and programming completion, the customer will be sent notification by Customer Service that parts will be shipping or are available for hand-carry as applicable

*Please note that COIHP is performed during the day shift (8 hours), Monday - Friday only, by qualified personnel. Hours indicated above are based on Monday – Friday day shift hours only.

Q: What is the lead time for programmed parts on a new order?

A: This would be factored into the scheduled date for the order based on current lead-times, IHP capacity and quantity.

Q: How many customer-owned parts can be returned for programming at once?

A: Any number of parts can be programmed; however, we are generally not set up for high volume programming (more than 5 units) and you should expect longer lead-times. We encourage customers to purchase programmers and hardware to perform programming themselves for high volume quantities.

Q: What is your policy for programming fallout replacements for IHP of Customer owned units?

A: Customers are strongly encouraged to supply additional units in case of programming fallout. In the event that Microsemi SoC has higher fallout on these units than anticipated and is not able to meet the Customer requested quantity for successfully programmed units, Microsemi SoC will replace units which fail programming with available product from inventory or lots-in-process. Replacements are subject to lead-time and will be programmed prior to shipment to you. Any units that are not used for programming will be returned to the Customer as blanks. Please note that this policy applies only to products that have not been discontinued. If a customer does not agree to this policy (agreement is made at time of on-line IHP Request), then any programming rejects will be returned to you and then may be returned on a new RMA request for Credit and Replacement per standard warranty. We do not offer credit only RMA’s.

Q. Are government rated ordered accepted?

A.Yes. U.S. Government DPAS rated orders are accepted and given priority as dictated by U.S. law

Q. When returning parts for IHP that were originally purchased as SLDC or with other special requirements, how can I ensure that any programming rejects are from the same date code and/or have the same special requirements as the original parts?

A. The only way to ensure this would be to supply additional units with the RMA. If this is not possible, then upon receipt of your IHP and RMA request, we will confirm if we can support replacements for any programming rejects from the same date code or same requirements. If we cannot, you will have the option to either accept replacements from a different date code or have any programming rejects returned to you. You will be asked to make this decision at the time of your on-line IHP Request. Please note per our standard warranty, RMA’s are for credit and replacement of the units only, which does not include special requirements, data packages, etc.

Q: If the original customer owned parts were shipped on an Export license, how do I return them for IHP?

A: When you request the RMA, based on the original SO, we will be able to advise if the parts were originally returned on an Export license. If an order is shipped against a Department of State License the customer cannot return product for programming until we apply for a DOS license/DSP61 for modification. We cannot apply for the license modification until we receive

the programming part number. There are no additional documents needed from the field. Please note that the license can take up to 4 weeks. Once we receive the modified DOS license/DSP61, the RT RMA process must be followed and the local sales office will assist. Microsemi will arrange for pick-up of the parts for return when all the paperwork is in place.

Q: If I want to change the marking for a new IHP request for a design that Microsemi has programmed in the past, do I need to submit a new IHP request?

A: Yes, as the part number is unique not only to the design file, but also the marking.

Q: If I have a design that has been programmed by Microsemi SoC in the past, do I have to submit a new request online each time I require IHP for this design?

A:You will just need to place a Purchase Order or RMA request referencing the original unique programmed part number.

Q: What is your policy on Customer final source inspections or Customer attendance during programming?

A: Microsemi does not allow Customer Final Source Inspection; attendance by Customers during programming is not permitted. Under Microsemi’s Technology Transfer Control Plan, Microsemi does not permit customers to use our test facility for Final Customer Source Inspection electrical testing, under which this request would fall. Additionally, Microsemi cannot accommodate requests where the Customer wants to wait for the units, or send a courier to wait for the units.

Q: I have a customer- owned part to return to be programmed, however I have put a mark on it. Can I still send the part back?

A: Microsemi will not accept customer marked parts returned for IHP.

Q: My design file has a different part number (variation in speed grade, temp range, etc) than the part number I am returning to be programmed. Can Microsemi accept it?

A: Microsemi will not accept it. Our system only allows a 1 to 1 correlation. The part number being returned must match the part number in the design file.

Q: I have a large quantity that I want to send back for programming. Can I get an expected ship date for these parts before I send them back?

A:The order for the shipment of the programmed parts will be scheduled once the blank parts are received in house and the lead time can be established. See previous FAQ on lead time.

Q: What documents are sent with the programmed unit?

A: The signed Certificate of Conformance/Compliance (C of C) and a programming traveler.
