SCIENCE CONTRACT

Welcome to 7th Grade Science! This contract was created to give you a clear understanding of what your responsibilities will be so that you will have a successful year in science. In addition, it is important that your parents have an understanding of what your responsibilities are as well; therefore, both your signature and your parent’s/guardian’s signature are required below.

I. Classroom Conduct

A. Students will go directly to assigned seat when entering the classroom.

B. Students may only leave their seat when instructed by the teacher.

C. No food, gum or drinks are permitted in the classroom; a water bottle is allowed.

D. No hats, caps, toys, games, cell phones, laser pointers, beepers, i pods, radios, walk mans or other electronic devices are permitted to be worn or used during class.

E. Students must raise their hands to speak during class.

II. Grading Policy

A. Grades are cumulative providing an ongoing reflection of student work; grades are based on the following components and corresponding weights: Exams (40%), projects (20%), homework (20%), class work, labsand cooperation (15%), pre-assessments (5%).

B. Passing grade for Non Honors will be 65% and Honors will be 75%.

III. Class Work

A. Active participation is required during all class work. This includes individual, group and class discussions.

B. You are required to keep an organized and complete notebook; if you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the notes from another classmate and any corresponding handouts from our classroom folder.

C. In the event of an excused absence it is the responsibility of the student to obtain any missed class notes from a classmate and gather any missing handouts from our class folder.

D. Students must use all science equipment only when and as instructed by their teacher for their personal protection as well as the integrity of the materials. Each time a student fails to comply with the classroom safety rules, a grade of (0) will be earned for class work. Each zero will result in a five point deduction from the overall class work grade.

IV. Homework Policy

A. Homework assignments must include the proper school heading and corresponding homework number with the assignment.

B. Homework assignments must be completed in black or blue ink. For all multiple choice, true/false, matching, completion questions, or any other short responses, both the questions and answers must be written out for a complete response; all extended response questions must be answered using complete sentences. If only the answers are recorded, then the assignment is incomplete and will receive a grade of zero.

C. Homework assignments must be kept in the homework section of your notebook.

D. In the event of an excused absence, it is the responsibility of the student to look up the missing assignment(s) online and from our homework book in class and gather any corresponding handouts; it is also his/her responsibility to turn it in to the teacher; all homework assignments from the textbook are expected to be turned in on the day the student returns to school or it will be considered late. A note from a parent/guardian is required in the event of an extenuating circumstance.

E. Any missed or incomplete assignments will receive a grade of (0). You must make up the homework assignment(s), but the grade of zero will remain intact. Each zero will result in an overall deduction of five points from the overall homework grade.

F. Homework assignments will be checked for timely completion on the day they are due. Students are expected to make corrections in a different colored pen for all homework gone over in class.

V. Tests & Projects

A. Students will be given notice prior to a test.

B. Students must obtain their parent’s/guardian’s authentic signature on all tests and projects and they must be brought back to class to turn in to the teacher.

C. Any student who is caught cheating (including plagiarizing) will receive an automatic zero for that assignment and their parent will be contacted immediately.

VI. Tutoring

Tutoring will be available during our designated weekly lunch period. Bring a bagged lunch from home. Come to tutoring prepared with questions and be ready to work on concepts you have difficulty understanding, or for extra practice.
