UH Botanical Field Trip Formal Lab Write-up

Title: Which plant is most prevalent to UH Botanical Field Trip?

Problem: Which one (angiosperm, fern or gymnosperm) occurs the most on UH Botanical field trip?

Hypothesis: If I make a figure table (bar graph, tally sheet) then I will be able to find which type occurs more because I will have a count made to help to tell which plant is prevalent. I think angiosperms would be the most prevalent because they have the most reproduction organs on each plant.

Questions: I have no questions at this time.

Procedure: First bring the packet. Next, follow map made in the packet. Make tallies along the way for each plant seen – angiosperm, fern, and gymnosperm. Add tallies. Finally use data to make conclusion.

Observation:

Table 1: Count of Plants at UH Botanical Field Trip

Plant Type / Tally / Count
Angiosperms / IIII IIII IIII III / 18
Ferns / I / 1
Gymnosperms / I / 1

Conclusion: My hypothesis was correct. I found that the angiosperm was the most prevalent on this field trip. I was able to use the charts, figures and tables to help find the conclusion.

Discussion: This field trip was a fun and learning experience. I learned that pollen is the male part, and the flower is the female part and how some plants got to Hawaii. I also learned that angiosperms are the most prevalent. I feel future students should complete this field trip. My theory to why angiosperms are most prevalent is because pollen is held near the flower and when the wind blows, the pollen stock releases some pollen and the pollen blows to the flower, insects and birds harvest the nectar from the flower and pollen may be transferred as they fly from flower to flower. I think future classes will enjoy this field trip and learn from it so you should keep this field trip. I rank this field trip a nine out of ten.
