PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION TO STUDENT TEACHING:

Prior to acceptance into student teaching, each student must have fulfilled the appropriate requirements for their program:

A) Graduate from the undergraduate portion of the Unified PROTEACH program.

B) Be admitted as a graduate or post-baccalaureate student for the fifth year of the Unified PROTEACH program.

C) If you are an Elementary Education (Dual Certification) Special Education student, you must have completed the following courses by the semester preceding student teaching:

EEX 6841 Practicum in Special Education: Mild Disabilities

EEX 6233Mild Disabilities Concentration: Assessment, Curriculum & Instruction

COMPLETION OF FORMS:

Forms will not be accepted without all information requested. Answer each question carefully. The Application for Student Teaching will be considered the same as an application for employment; it introduces you to the principal or designee and directing teacher. Please check to be sure that you have all the necessary forms. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.

DEADLINES FOR TURNING IN APPLICATIONS:

Applications must be completed and returned to Student Services in Room G416 Norman Hall by the following dates. Do not mail in the application or ask someone else to turn it in for you.

Fall Semester Deadline - February 1. Spring Semester Deadline - September 16.

PERIODS OF STUDENT TEACHING:

Inclusive student teaching dates will be included on the Agreement to Take a Student Teacher Form which you will receive when your placement is confirmed. Student teachers are required to follow the same schedule, including holidays, as the school in which they are placed, not the UF calendar.

REGISTRATION FOR STUDENT TEACHING:

Studentsmust obtain the section number for student teaching from their department offices. These numbers will not be given out over the telephone.

NOTIFICATION OF PLACEMENT:

Placement will not be completed in full until near the end of the semester prior to student teaching. You will be notified by mail by the Student Teaching Coordinator as soon as your Agreement Form referred to above is received. Your notice will consist of the Agreement Form and a memo advising you of other important information pertinent to student teaching during the semester. PLEASE BE PATIENT!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Do not contact public school personnel unless you are advised by the Student Teaching Office to do so. Please request parents, spouses, friends and/or relatives to refrain from requesting placement for you in a specific school. Such requests cannot be met and, as a consequence, cause misunderstanding, disappointment, and embarrassment. If you furnish the Student Teaching Officewith complete information about your wishes, needs, and programs, careful consideration will be given to your particular needs and requests.

IF YOU WITHDRAW FROM STUDENT TEACHING:

If at any time, you decide to withdraw from student teaching, you must notify your Department Coordinator and the Student Teaching Office as soon as you reach this decision. When the withdrawal decision has been confirmed, we must notify the county and school where you were placed so they will know not to expect you. Your cooperation will enable us to maintain good relationships with school districts and will assure you of consideration should you decide to complete student teaching at a later date.

JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE:

The University Career Resource Center (CRC) will assist you in securing employment. The CRC office is located on the 1st floor of Reitz Union. They can assist you with designing your resume, finding job opportunities, and building a credentials file that would include letters of recommendation, your resume and cover letter, and your transcript.
