1 hour 1.1 Kickoff
1.1 Introduction of attendees.
1.2 Discuss prototyping process and review the agenda for the next three days.
1.3 Review e-learning possibilities; demonstrate differences between good and poor e-learning.
1 hour 2.0 Discuss Learning Goals for Project
2.1 Discuss organization’s desired performance goals in behavioral terms.
2.2 Present the training/learning climate and readiness for technology supported
learning as understood from backgrounding.
2.3 Review the criteria for success: How will we measure the learners’ success?
2.4 Review previous work done.
2.5 Listen to a recent learner’s story and solicit the supervisor’s and SME’s input.
2.6 Create a strategic map of what the instruction should accomplish.
1 hour 3.0 Brainstorm Prototype 1
3.1 Review the objectives and discuss the goals of topic to prototype. What do learners really need to do?
3.2 Discuss how to determine what needs to be taught.
3.3 Discuss the necessity of the learner’s motivation to learn. What design elements can be used to heighten motivation?
3.4 Brainstorm learning events.
lunch break
4.0 Build Prototype 1
4.1 Designer and prototyper brainstorm further approaches and build an interaction.
4.2 Everyone else is free to check email, go back to work, etc.
4.3 Summon the team.
45 minutes 5.0 Review Prototype 1 and Discuss Next Steps
5.1 Team comes to review the prototype created.
5.2 Discuss improvements, possibly brainstorm further approaches, etc.
What worked? What didn’t?
5.3 Plan next steps. Debrief the prototyping process. What happens next? Who else gets involved? How do we move forward?
45 minutes 6.0 Brainstorm Prototype 2 (different content)
1 hours 7.0 Build Prototype 2 (different content)
Savvy Start Day 2
1/2 hour 8.0 Review Prototype 2
1/2 hour 9.0 User Feedback
9.1 Discuss importance of user feedback at this point.
9.2 Discuss logistics of obtaining learner feedback
1/2 hour – 45 minutes 10.0 Delivery Platform, Assessment, and Tracking
10.1 Discuss delivery platform capabilities and restrictions.
10.2 Review goals for assessment.
10.3 Stipulate assessments.
10.4 Discuss performance tracking mechanisms (e.g., logging in) and issues.
10.5 Determine compliancy issues (if any).
10.6 Review the role of formal instructional objectives.
1/2 hour 11.0 Write Objectives
11.1 Review the organization’s goal; restate if appropriate.
11.2 Write one or two objectives.
11.3 Discuss resources and responsibilities. Who is going to analyze behaviors the Savvy Start team won’t address and write corresponding objectives? How will consensus be achieved for these additional course objectives?
45 minutes 12.0 Brainstorm Prototype 3 (new content)
lunch break
2 hours 13.0 Build Prototype 3
1/2 hour 14.0 Review Prototype 3
1/2 hour 15.0 Brainstorm Prototype 4 (New content or build off an existing prototype, depending on what’s needed.)
1 and 1/2 hours 16.0 Build Prototype 4
1/2 hour 17.0 Review Prototype 4
Savvy Start Day 3
15 minutes 18.0 Prototypes in Context
18.1 Review the process for creating the complete application (completion of Objectives x Treatments Matrix, integrating prototypes, number of cycles needed, integrating media, and developing the alpha, beta, and gold versions).
18.2 Discuss need for and means of gathering user feedback.
1 hour 19.0 The Perfect Solution
19.1 Describe the perfect solution, given your conversations throughout the previous two days regarding need, analysis, gap, potential solutions, tracking, assessments, etc.:
• What items would it track?
• How would you know learners gained knowledge and experience?
• What kind of reporting data would it generate?
• How would it be accessed, and what type of security would be present?
19.2 As you think about the ideal solution, discuss who is best prepared to contribute to it. Who, for example, can contribute not only content expertise, but also learning and performance inspiration?
1/2 hour 20.0 Project Constraints
20.1 Budget and timeline
20.2 SME access and content
20.3 Project teams, approvals, decision-making
1/2 hour 21.0 Media
21.1 Present a variety of applications using different approaches to media.
Discuss pros and cons of different styles.
21.2 Gather feedback and opinions on what defines the desired look and feel.
21.3 Discuss sound, video, animation . . . anything that can impact performance of running WBT.
45 minutes 22.0 Brainstorm Prototype 5
22.1 New content or build off an existing prototype? Depends on what’s needed.
22.2 Integrate anything that comes up during the “comprehensive solution” approach.
