Important information- The complete file (application form + annexes) must be submitted by the applicant’s UCL supervisor, to the Chair of the UCL International Action Board (Conseil de l’actioninternationale-CAI) c/o ADRI, by 31March, 2017 (before 12:00 PM Belgian time).
An electronic version of the complete application,as one single PDF file,must be sent to the same date. - The applicant or his/her UCL supervisor must also apply to study for a doctorate by the subject-specific doctoral committee (CDD) (for doctorates at UCL) or a research diploma (for doctorates in the applicant’s own institution) in their field of research.
Documents to join to the application form
For all applicants:
- A recommendation letter from the applicant’s UCL supervisor. If the applicant alternates between two institutions, a recommendation letterand a C.V. from the applicant’s supervisor at the own institution;
- The proposed research project (5 pages maximum) and the timetable of proposedactivities.
For applicants who aim to obtain a doctorate at UCL:
- Thedecision of the doctoral committee (CDD) regarding the PhD admission at UCL, grantedor subject to additional requirements (e.g. attend additional courses).
For applicants who aim to obtain a doctorate at theirhome University:
- Proof of registration in a PhD program at the home University;
- A recommendation letterand a C.V. from the applicant’s supervisor at the own institution;
- Applicant’s admission letter to a research diploma (for doctorates in the applicant’s own institution) in their field of research.
For applicants already enrolled in a PhD program atUCL:
- The most recent report from the applicant’s thesis committee.

V.1 Research at the UCL or in asplit-site research project
The UCL International Action Board (Conseil del’actioninternationale-CAI) considers the establishment of a researchcollaborationbetween UCL and the applicant’s own institutionthe best strategy to promote the effective re-integration and professional development of the applicant. The CAI therefore strongly encouragesapplicants to choose this option.
The research will be carried out exclusively at the UCL.

V.2 Payment
UCL doctoral fellowships are granted to applicants exclusively during theirstaysin Belgium.
Payments will be made according to the planned research calendarin Belgium(paid out in no more than 36 monthly instalments, over a period of up to 72 months).
The total duration of the research (including the stays abroad) cannot exceed this period.
Please note that if required by the CDD and before the admission to the PhD, a maximum of 12 additional monthly instalments may be granted for the periods spent in Belgium.

V.2.cFlight tickets
Ifin the schedule,research periodsin the home country are foreseen, theUCL International Action Board (Conseil de l’actioninternationale-CAI) will also cover the cost of one or more return flights between the international airport nearest to their place of residence and Brussels airport.
The number is limited to one round-trip per year.
