Old Business:

  • Glenn provided an updates; Automatic door installation contract is ready to be signed, start work date still undetermined. Florescent bulb disposal machine has been purchased and has arrived. Storm water runoff drains are being inspected as well as the water retention pond. This will happen prior to any work on the parking lot. Parking lot design bid is being updated for final quote on replacement and resurfacing. Finance council has approved funds for these actions.
  • Catholic Heart work camp came and painted several areas within the church. These youth also mulched around the building and stained the deck at Father’s house.
  • The environmental committee updated the council regarding taking the church to a paper-less church. Education of the parish will be done through poster around the church in mid August. In September article will be written for the bulletin and the environmental committee will be meeting with different groups within the church to discuss moving to a paper-less church. Mr. Marroni said that the date for full implementation would be the 1st Sunday of advent. The question of “was this is what was discussed and planned in the previous meeting” was brought up. The education of the parish was the plan as stated in the previous meeting minutes. More discussion followed after Mr. Marroni’s departure in regards to the environmental committee’s action plan and is still unresolved.

New Business:

  • Concerns were brought up about follow through regarding the suggestion box inputs. The spread sheet that tracks follow ups and person responsible for action is review at staff meetings per Father. Father suggested that Karen Dunn be the person to track these follow up actions and give feedback to the parish individuals or through public announcement using the church bulletin. Father suggested that Karen communicate to individual when suggestions are repetitive.
  • Alfie reported to the council that Parish Life has move to Parish Life Ministry and held a meeting recently. Calendars where set and conflicting dates where adjusted. She said that Parish Life Ministries would be event driven and they would handle the Sacramental celebrations such as First Communion, Confirmation and East Vigil. The Golden Seniors group is moving right along with their plans and the resent Movie Night went very well.
  • George Coker reported on the Bible Study group. They are just finishing up on a 24 week Bible study. They are currently working on a 5 to 6 year plan as well.
  • Terry McClaskey gave a report on the fair results. The fair netted some 22 thousand dollars this year and have booked the date with the ride group for next year.

Father’s Reports:

  • Vacation bible school had 105 kids signed up and 40 to 50 youth volunteers help.
  • A new Liturgy coordinator has been hired. Steve Branning and his family will be joining our parish shortly.
  • Father informed the council of a gift from parish member trust and that the funds would go to Capital Reserve funds.
  • Father thanked everyone involved with the fair and recognized the time commitments from fair members.
  • Father said the purchase of the new Stations of the Cross will be postponed so it could be coordinated with possible changes to the Chapel.

Additions:

  • George Coker brought up and asked about changing the name of the Church to include the word Catholic in it. Change from “Church of the Holy Family” to “Holy Family Catholic Church”. Discussion ensued and the council consensus was to add “Catholic Church” as a tag line to the current name. Glenn said he could look into the cost for the signage change.
  • Alfie brought up that the council should prepare for upcoming council elections. The normal time frame is to advertise in September and hold elections in October.

Next council meeting date will be at 7pm on August 20, 2013.

Father led us in a prayer to end the meeting.
