Speakers:

Dr. Judy Bulazo, USCSD Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, reported on the new grading system and report cards at the elementary level. Our current report card has not changed for at least 30 years. There will still be no letter grades for elementary students- instead we will continue with the Standards-Based reporting approach. For the 2015-16 school year, there will be a different report card for each elementary grade level. Academic and behavior goals and performance indicators have changed. Behavior goals will be marked with a checkmark in one of two columns: M (meets expectations) or an I (needs improvement). If an “I” is marked, clarification will be provided in the comments. Performance Indicators have three difference levels: M (Meets grade level standards), P (Progressing towards grade level standards), or E (Experiencing difficulty with grade level standards). An additional indicator ofw/smeans reached mastery with support. The narrative comments will have more space for the teachers to give detailed feedback. Teachers have been inserviced on this new format. New report cards will be sent out on November 6. Parent and teacher feedback will be solicited, and this year is considered a pilot year.
