Job Description
Job Title: / Fundraiser
Line Manager: / Fundraising Manager
Professionally Accountable to: / Fundraising Director
Hours of Work: / 37.5 per week. Flexible working hours (including some unsociable hours, weekends & evenings).
Job Purpose: / To raise income through community fundraising in line with the aims and objectives of the Income Generation Strategy.
Responsibilities:
INCOME GENERATION
  1. To develop the fundraising programme to meet agreed annual financial targets and to grow income from community/events/business fundraising within the next five years
  1. To plan, develop and manage all areas of community/events/business fundraising including for example fundraising from churches, schools, social groups, Weston Hospicecare Friends Groups, local businesses, hospice events and other identified opportunities
  1. To plan, organise and implement fundraising events and products in order to engage support for Weston Hospicecare
  1. To explore new fundraising activities, methods and initiatives to increase income and raise the profile of the charity
  1. To oversee all administrative functions necessary for the smooth running of community fundraising, ensuring that costs are kept to a reasonable level and maximising income
  1. Monitor competitor activity locally to inform decisions for future fundraising activities
  1. To attend internal and external events to network and acquire initial contacts to support Fundraising activities
MARKETING & PROMOTION
  1. To work with the Marketing & Communications Officer to produce compelling marketing materials for community fundraising and to ensure that PR and general Hospice promotional materials contribute to the fundraising programme
ORGANISATION & MANAGEMENT
  1. To work with Fundraising Administration to maintain highly organized administrative systems, effective recording of activities and the maintenance of community records on the Fundraising Database
  1. To ensure income is correctly recorded and monitored
  1. To regularly analyse performance of the fundraising programme, document learnings for the future and continuously improve activities
VOLUNTEERS
  1. To ensure volunteers are recruited as needed to support community fundraising programmes and that they are properly briefed and supervised
GENERAL
  1. To work closely with other members of the Income Generation Team and to actively participate in the wider activities of the Department.
  1. To participate in the annual planning and budgeting process.
  1. To keep informed of sector-wide developments, attending external training and conferences where appropriate
  1. To keep up to date on legal, health and safety and insurance requirements and developments to safeguard Weston Hospicecare, our volunteers and event participants
  1. To undertake any other duties considered to fall within the scope of the position, as directed by the Head of Income Generation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
The postholder should be educated to degree level, hold equivalent professional qualifications or have equivalent professional experience.
Experience
The postholder will need experience and working knowledge of fundraising or comparable experience in a commercial environment. Must be able to operate proactively with low supervision needs.
Knowledge & Skills
Member of the Institute of Fundraising (desirable). Institute of Fundraising Management Certificate holder – or working towards qualification (desirable). Familiarity with day to day use of fundraising databases will be beneficial.
Communication and People Skills
The postholder will have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be capable of communicating complex matters simply and effectively to a wide range of audiences. They will be capable of attending and leading both formal and informal meetings, giving group presentations (with and without presentation aids) and relating to people individually or as part of a group.
Organisational Skills
The postholder will be proactive and highly organized, with the ability to manage a wide-ranging and fluctuating workload which encompasses new business generation, relationship development and management, organising and hosting corporate fundraising events and other related tasks. The postholder will plan their activities and manage their workload to ensure that they meet their goals and targets.
Special Knowledge
Knowledge and understanding of the Charities Act and laws that are relevant to fundraising practice.Knowledge of Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice. Knowledge and understanding of Gift Aid and other tax issues how these apply to donors. Working knowledge of regulations and legislation regarding fundraising in the commercial environment e.g. payroll giving.
Skills
Must be PC literate.
Other Requirements
Responsible, hard-working, committed to donor care, personable, confident, flexible, organized, creative, sense of humour, ability to work effectively under pressure, motivational skills – both of self and of others, able to work as part of a team. Must have full driving licence and access to a car.
