Project Manager - Job Description

Responsible to: Chair of Management Committee

Responsible for: All staff

Job Purpose

The principal task is to oversee all areas of the Barons Court Project’s work

The Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the financial security of the project through ensuring fundraising and cost control
  • Overseeing service delivery
  • Monitoring the project’s progress
  • Ensuring the project’s activities remain consistent with its aims, objectives and values
  • Ensuring that the organisation has a consultative style of management involving effective teamwork and input from service users

Key Areas of Responsibility

1.Service Delivery

1.1Ensure the delivery of high quality of service and care for all the project’s service users and cultivate a culture of public service within the organisation.

1.2 Direct involvement in service delivery to a sufficient level to ensure:

  • Familiarity with agreed working practice
  • Informed contact is maintained with project users
  • Effective systems are in place for monitoring and evaluation
  • Staffing levels are sufficient for planned services to be delivered

1.2Maintain the organisations commitment to collaborative work with organisations engaged in similar work and to campaign work to raise awareness of the needs of homeless people and people with mental health problems.

2. Strategic Planning and Operational Management.

2.1 Ensure the development and implementation of all plans, policies and procedures through the operational management of the organisation.

2.2 Implement and develop the systems for regular monitoring and evaluation to meet the changing needs of the organisation and funders for detailed feedback on the impact of the project’s work.

2.3 Initiate and make recommendations to the Management Committee on the strategic management and development of the organisation. Ensure a high quality of servicing of the committee and any committee sub groups or working groups. Take a lead in service development including the production of development plans.

2.4 Ensure implementation and development of the organisations Equal Opportunities Policy including the development of user involvement.

3.Finance and Fundraising

3.1 Overall responsibility for the organisation’s financial systems

3.2 In collaboration with the finance worker ensure the financial viability of the organisation through fund-raising and cost control. Ensure that a viable budget is drawn up and adhered to throughout each financial year and that robust mechanisms of financial control are in place.

3.3 Responsibility for developing co-ordinating a fundraising strategy with relevant employees including:

  • Developing links with potential new funders and purchasers
  • The production of all major funding applications and bids
  • Ensuring that there is a strategy for charitable and non-statutory fundraising.

3.4 Responsibility for the negotiation of service agreements and contacts

4.Liaison and PR

4.1 Ensure that the organisation maintains a high profile through significant liaison, networking and publicity with all key stakeholders.

4.2 Oversee the production of high quality publicity materials including annual reports and regular monitoring reports to promote the projects work.

4.3 Ensure that the work of the project presents a positive and professional image in accordance with the values of Barons Court Project.

5. Personnel Management

5.1 Responsibility for implementing agreed conditions of service for all staff and ensuring that all legal obligations are adhered to in the areas of employment, data protection, health and safety at work and equal opportunity.

5.2 Implement agreed personnel policy including grievance and disciplinary procedures and the appraisal of new staff.

5.3 Responsibility for the co-ordination of the recruitment and selection of staff.

5.4 Overall responsibility for ensuring that all staff and volunteers receive appropriate supervision, support and (internal and external) training within the framework of the organisation’s commitment to Investors in People.

5.5 Ensure all internal meetings (including team meetings, management meetings, and all service planning meetings) take place and function effectively as forums for discussion, support and clear decision making.

5.6Any other duties which could reasonably be said to fall within the remit ofthe post.
