Position Description
Title:Communications Manager
Responsible to: Commercial Director
Works with: The Commercial Team and other Tri NZ staff, sponsors, trusts, commissions,media and TV, event partners, councils, advertising agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Location: Auckland at Tri NZ offices, 14 Normanby Rd, Mt Eden, Eden 4, Ground Floor
Purpose:
  1. Own and lead the communications strategy & delivery across the business. TriBE members, Tri Series, Age Group, Internal, to achieve desired KPIs. Provide input with HP and Partners
  2. Manage and champion the Digital Platform tools for Tri NZ and key stakeholders (coaches, clubs, event promoters) ensuring their effective use and measured stats. Drive adoption internally as a key tool to all units’ success and goal achievement. Drive future developments
  3. Brand & Asset custodian across internal, all stakeholders and third party relationships ensuring the brands are correctly used, tone and manner maintained and brand promise is adhered to
  4. Execute governance communication requirements annually

Key responsibilities
Communications:
Annual communications strategy and plan in the following areas
  • Tri Series, TriBE members, Blackout Age Groupers, Cross Promotions with other events, Sanctioned Events, Partners contracted benefits, HP (Advice and distribution)
  • Collaboration with Sovereign to develop joint Sovereign Tri Series Communications plan
  • Develop a specific strategy around better integration and use of Social Media as a channel
  • All communication campaigns to be tracked and reported to the key stakeholders
  • Responsible for the production of Tri NZ’s Annual Report.
  • Responsible for meeting all Governance communication requirements in specific time frames for the AGM and Board
  • Drive other communications initiatives that takes Tri NZ towards its strategic objectives
  • Be at the forefront of new digital technologies and social media channels as communication tools for Tri NZ
  • Assist the Commercial Director to ensure all obligations to Tri NZ’s existing sponsors are meeting their KPI’s.
  • Manage and mentor the Communications Assistant in executing the pieces needed for Participants, Partners, Members and other stakeholders
  • Work with the Technical and Event Advisor to ensure non-Tri NZ events are promoted equitably and in alignment with the event Sanctioning and endorsement policy.
Digital Platform Tools:
  • Overall responsibility for the Tri NZ website and database and management of the contract with ORA
  • Develop a content matrix for all sections of the site and work with all internal stakeholders to ensure their content is current, relevant, and aligned with our brand values.
  • Develop and provide easy to follow website and digital campaign tracking and reporting for all internal content owners. Drive internal ownership to continually improve results with a view to the digital platform being used a key tool to achieving their goals.
  • Own the database segmentation strategy and ongoing collection, maintenance and cleaning of the data, thereby allowing highly targeted and relevant communication pieces to be sent to members.
  • Work closely with Sport NZ on participation Insights and cross reference with triathlon database to assist in decision making
  • Champion the ongoing development of the digital platform to stay up with new technologies, channels to communicate and achieve Tri NZ’s goals
  • Work with the Commercial Director to develop ecommerce opportunities across the business to drive more revenue, partner and member satisfaction
  • Work with the Community Director on the event alignment project to roll out paid membership, race licenses and any other automated process required
  • Lead and manage phase II website develop, particularly e-commerce
Brand & Asset Management
  • Ensure Tri NZ’s Brand Identity Toolkit is enforced both internally and externally with Tri NZ’s key partners and sponsors to ensure a consistent look and feel, including print, web, audio and apparel.
  • Ensurethe Brand Guidelinesof our key partners are followed and adhered to at all times.
  • To drive the continued development and implementation of Tri NZ’s brand strategy.
  • Develop brand signage kits for use at Tri NZ owned events, and some that can be leant to Local Operators delivering on Tri NZ’s behalfand JV Event Providers
  • Own the relationships with Photographers and Video providers to ensure Tri NZ own key media assets for use in our promotions and communications. Manage that Library of Assets so other Tri NZ employees & partners can easily access and use them where appropriate
Media / PR:
  • To work with Tri NZs Media Manager to create innovative Media/ PR opportunities for the organisation and to support the Communications Strategy for our key events that raise the profile of the sport and Tri NZ’s activities.
  • To liaise with Tri NZ’s Media Manager to ensure Tri NZ’s Media programme is consistent with Tri NZ’s Brand Values and the values of Tri NZ’s key stakeholders.
Marketing
  • To develop and implement compelling and innovative marketing programme that integrates with the Communication Strategies and Plans for Tri NZ events, sport development activities and other initiatives within the organisation.
  • To create and produce all collateral for Tri NZ’s events. Collateral will include, print, radio & web advertisements, event branding, social media, digital advertising etc.
  • To procure the most competitive price for all Tri NZ’s marketing collateral whilst maintaining a high level of quality and service.
  • To assist the events team with the planning ofon-site branding and collateral at Tri NZ run events
  • To carry out any other tasks as reasonably directly by the Commercial Director.

Key Working Relationships
Commercial Team
  • Comms plans for partners to achieve their goals
  • Branding required for Tri NZ and partners at Tri NZ and supported events
  • Ecommerce opportunities to drive additional revenue through the digital platform
Community Team
  • Feed into the Event Alignment Project to introduce paid membership fees and race licenses
  • Assist with development of comms to the Age Groupers
  • Assist with development of comms to the NZ Selected Age Groupers
  • Support finding promotions to run and deliver additional revenue and value from Age Groupers
Media Manager
  • Feed into annual PR Plan to support the Comms Plan
  • Feed into the Tri Series PR Plan to support the comms Plan
Event Manager
  • Work closely on all Tri NZ Events
HP Director
  • Support the HP team with appropriate comms to support their campaigns and raise the profile of the sport and team within NZ

Desired Capabilities / competencies:
This role is critical for Tri NZ to deliver a comprehensive communications platform across all Channels, and as such requires:
This role is the shop front for Tri NZ and will drive key success outcome in all areas of the business. As such it requires the following in order of priority:
  1. Strategic thinker who can plan multiple pieces to make a complex structure appear simple and seamless
  2. Strong capability in the digital platform space to shape the future of Tri NZ’s communication channels to drive results
  3. Ability to write pieces in different tones of voice to meet the segment needs
  4. Ability to juggle multiple tasks
Competencies
  • A ‘can do’ strategic attitude who is self-motivated and has an ability to efficiently manage own time.
  • 3 years’ experiencein a relevant role predominately focusing on Communications & Digital Platforms
  • Experience in marketing, brand management and implementation will be an advantage
