We’re looking for a charismatic, experienced and passionate Research and Policy Analyst to join our team at this key point of growth. You will be responsible for gathering, analysing and reporting on data as it affects young people around our key campaign areas of bullying, behaviour and character development.

The ideal candidate will enjoy managing, analysing and interpreting data in a clear and meaningful way. He or she will be comfortable working with colleagues across the organisation, will show initiative and be able to work on various projects simultaneously.

Applicants will have an excellent understanding of issues relating to bullying, safeguarding and behaviour and be able to create relevant responses and policy-related papers to support our campaign around these issues; targeted at a wide audience.

Post Title: Research and Policy Analyst–12months contract

Department Objectives: To reduce bullying for all young people; both online and offline.

Purpose of job:

To support the provision of data and policy products which enable Diana Award to:

  • Make evidence-based decisions and develop evidence-based policy
  • Develop and evaluate impactful campaigns, products and services
  • Communicate the impact of bullying on young people in an accurate and compelling way
  • Changepolicy, practice and public attitude for the benefit of children, young people and their families.
  • Make the case for value of social action in helping build character in young people.

Key accountabilities:

This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the job and the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this role. It is not exhaustive and staff may be required to undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the role as requested by the line manager.

  1. Collate, analyse and interpret data and statistics about our Antibullying Programme and related campaigns and it’s impact across all schools in the UK
  1. Interpret data and research papers in order to develop an understanding of the impact of bullying on individuals and their families; which is robust and compelling enough to be used with the media and with senior decision-makers.
  1. Collate and communicate the opinions of young people on all areas of our campaigns ensuring that the Diana Award’s policy and campaigning agenda is driven by their needs.
  1. Monitor relevant external developments in education and research policy in order to identify opportunities and support Diana Award’s campaigning and influencing work.
  1. Develop high quality data and policy products, including monthly reports, position statements, consultation responses and briefings to communicate the charity’s views and influence decision-makers.
  1. Use data to provide insight and drive change and improvement across the Anti-Bullying Campaign
  1. Write briefings, speeches and reports for the CEO and Head of Anti-Bullying Campaign on relevant policy matters
  1. Support project development and delivery across the charity, advising on the appropriate data and outputs.
  1. Disseminate Diana Award data and analysis to public and professional audiences so that our insights are shared and acted on.

Person specification requirements for policy analyst
Qualifications and knowledge: /
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent work experience in a field related to education, young people or policy
  • Understanding of and commitment to organisational values
  • Clear understanding of current developments in education, safeguarding, character development and policies around young people.
  • Knowledge of public and private sector sources of attainment and achievement data

Skills: /
  • Excellent IT skills, including ability to work with analysis software, databases, spreadsheets and content management systems as well as basic Microsoft Office package
  • Highly numerate and skilled in collating, analysing and interpreting complex datasets
  • Written and spoken communication skills, including ability to present complex information in an accessible way
  • Research and survey skills, with the ability to give methodological advice when needed
  • Literature searching, review and critical appraisal, including ability to conduct systematic searches

Experience: /
  • Interpretation and analysis of large datasets, including data linkage
  • Experience of presenting data in user-friendly ways
  • Finding and interpreting research literature
  • Researching, drafting and implementing policy
  • Conducting primary and secondary research projects (desirable)
  • Experience of working with key groups such as young people and schools on research
  • Experience of producing research and analysis for the purpose of influencing policy and/or practice
  • Experience of working within a team contributing to policy change, influencing work and campaigning.
  • Experience of producing questionnaires and evaluation methods
  • Experience of implementation of data bases and systems
