Subject: Nominations to Proclamation 2010 State Review Panels

Your assistance is requested in nominating individuals to serve on the Proclamation 2010 state review panels. State review panel members are charged with evaluating instructional materials to determine coverage of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and identifying factual errors. They play a very important role in ensuring that students throughout the state of Texas have the benefit of quality instructional materials.

Proclamation 2010 calls for instructional materials in the following areas:

·  English Language Arts & Reading, Grades K-1 / ·  Spanish Literature, Grade 6
·  Spanish Language Arts & Reading, Grades K-1 / ·  English for Speakers of Other Languages
I & II
·  Reading, Grades 2-5
·  Spanish Reading, Grades 2-5 / ·  English Language Proficiency Standards, Grades 9-12 Teacher Editions
·  Reading (Elective), Grades 6-8 / ·  AP English Language, English Literature
·  Literature, Grades 6-12 / ·  IB Language Studies, Standard & Higher Level

The materials adopted under Proclamation 2010 will be used in schools beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.

Panel members will convene in Austin during parts of June and July of 2009 to review the Proclamation 2010 instructional materials. Appointed state review panel members will serve for one week during that period. The Texas Education Agency will reserve hotel lodging and reimburse panel members for all travel expenses, as allowable by law.

Parents and representatives from the private sector can also play an active role in recommending materials for state adoption. Please circulate this letter to parents and community groups that may be interested in submitting nominations.

Nominations for appointment to the state review panels can be made by completing the application posted on the TEA website at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/textbooks/proclamations/proc2010/. Individuals are permitted to nominate themselves. Completed forms should be returned to the Texas Education Agency no later than January 16, 2009.
