Chapter 18: Page 823, first two paragraph

Reads:

Another popular option for smaller businesses might be a cable or DSL modem. Thissolution sometimes offers faster download speeds but slower upload speeds. Reliability isoften an issue. User are often forced to “share” connections with other nearby businesses, sometimes causing a sacrifice in speed.

Microwave is a solution for some sites where distance is short, reliability is not critical, andmoney is not an issue. With microwave, a U.S. Federal Communications Commission(FCC) license is required. The cost of the equipment is typically more than $10,000 per site, not including installation items. In heavy fog, rain, or snow, performance is questionable. Multipoint connections are usually not possible.

Chapter 18, Page 825 – Figure 18-12

The picture of absorbtion is wrong. Absorbtion is like a sponge, it sucks up RF signals. It does not pass through or reflect directly. It is important to change this figure.

Chapter 18, Pager 838, Table 18-3 The Gain column has the degree symbol when it should list dBi instead.

The Gain column should look like the following if space permits:

Gain

2–5 dBi

6–13 dBi

14–21dBi

Or, the column title could be changed by adding the “dBi” reference value to it. Located the “dBi above or below does not matter.
