Job title: International Director of Finance

Department:Resources

Reports to:Chief Operating Officer

Main Purpose of Role

  • To lead, manage and develop the International finance team atWorld Animal Protection:
  • To direct and oversee all of the financial activities to ensure the day-to-day finances of World Animal Protection International are controlled and managed
  • Contribute to the achievement of World Animal Protection’sobjectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategyto the senior management team
  • To ensure that the management information needs of World Animal Protection are met
  • To ensureWorld Animal Protection’sfinancial systems and procedures meet organisational needs and ensure compliance with them
  • To drive the establishment of a customer-focused culture and operations within the International finance team
  • To be a key liaison with the Finance Committee
  • To be responsible for statutory reporting, consolidation and the audit process and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Liaise with investment managers, bankers, auditors, HMRC etc as required
  • To be the global functional lead for Finance, providing functional leadership for all country and regional (overseas) finance officers:
  • Manage global treasury
  • Oversee the annual budgeting & planning process and ensure budgetary controls are in place
  • Establish and monitor the global financial policies and protocols within which country and regional offices should work and ensure compliance
  • Identify, monitor and manage financial risks
  • Champion improvements in global financial management and specific financial projects
  • Ensure the finance team delivers the highest standard of work and customer service
  • Ensure deployment of resources within the finance team to ensure the achievement of objectives
  • Lead and coach the team to recruit and retain high calibre staff
  • Provide coaching, guidance and support, set professional development plans to assist staff to reach their full potential

Position in Organisation

  • Reports to the Chief Operating Officer
  • Directly manages the Head of Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis,the Senior Financial Accountant, and the Procurement Manager and indirectly manages six other finance staff
  • Liaises at all levels across World Animal Protection globally

Dimensions & Limits of Authority

  • Responsible for all statutory accounting of World Animal Protection UK
  • Responsible for all management information requirements of World Animal Protection

Qualifications & Skills

  • Essential
  • CCAB qualified
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, and ability to clearly explain financial management issues to all staff
  • Desirable
  • Knowledge of Navision and Prophix

Experience and Attributes

Experience

  • Essential
  • Substantial experience of financial and management accounting
  • Experience of managing the audit process
  • Experience of working in an international organisation
  • Experience of treasury management, including foreign currencies
  • Substantial experience of leading and developing teams to deliver business objectives
  • Experience of implementing procurement processes
  • Experience of contract and grant management
  • Proven participation at senior management level in either the Not-for-Profit or Commercial sector
  • Desirable
  • Experience of Charities SORP
