Kiwanis Club of St. Charles

Weekly meeting wrap-up from 4/21/15

(Our meeting, April 28, will be at our regular location, BakerMemorialChurch)

-The bell rang at 12:05 with Stu Ainsworthleading us in song and Paul Conterato leading the Pledge of Allegiance, Kiwanis Pledge and prayer. The meeting was held at the BakerCommunity Center, action central for Rose day 2015.

-Thanks to our greeter, Bill Knotts. Our greeter on 4/28/15 will be Joan Leonard.

-Reminder about the Kiwanis International Convention: The “official” STC club delegates to the convention are Sue Liechti and Linda Stachowiak. The convention pre-registration period has been extended again.

-Rett Humke was welcomed back after a very successful maple syrup season in the UP of MI. He provided impressive stats to back that up, 15,000 lbs of sap, 30 gallons of syrup and beaucoup porcupine quills…

-On 4/9/15 the club board voted to donate $200.00 to the CampIndependence playground project fund in honor of the International President’s visit on 5/1/15.

-A poll of the club board supports having the Kane County Cougars game outing on 7/29/15 serve as our summer picnic. The cost is $31.00, including food and game ticket. According to event sponsor, Dr. Dohan, we already have more than thirty-five signed up. We should be able to more than double that number.

-District Work Day update: Project is on hold as there may not be sufficient work.

-Sally Murphy and Linda Brodine gave out Kiwanis Bowl-a-thon awards. We have good bowlers. I bet more will sign up every year going forward. They had FUN!

-Rose Day update:Kevin Madden was all smiles and not just because Rita Payleitner is taking over as Rose Day project guru. At the last minute we ordered the max we could get to fill the huge demand. We went from 25% down two weeks ago to passing our goal. Thanks much Rose Day committee!!Thanks much STC Kiwanians for a “dash” to the finish line. We will have our final report on 4/28 according to co-chairs Diana Brown and Connie Kurr. Rita Payleitner confided she is willing to take on the challenging, but rewarding job, as Rose Day guru because Kevin Madden has the project totally organized and ready to go!

-Just for fun we had Rose Day Trivia. Three tables tied with three of six correct answers, questions provided courtesy of Diane Dewitte.Since she had to deliver roses, she has no idea how good they were and how much fun the club had with this exercise. Even the seedy prizes were a hit.

-Raffle: Bill Knotts won the chance to find an ace, but no dice. It’s back to big $$.

-Happy Bucks:Another big week for Happy Buck donations….

-Bell rang at 12:43 PM….. so we could get back to the roses.. What a fun day!!

-Attendance: 26 to 49 depending on when you counted and if you counted Rose Day workers…

-Next Week: We award three grants, have the Rose Day final report and talk golf..
