Minutes

October 22, 2015

3:00p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Committee Members present: Lisa Dugan, Lisa Bispham, Roger Dixon, Natalie Dillon, Jill Francis, Kari Gilbert, Cassandra Holzhauer, Tamara Thomas, and Sharon A. Stone

  1. 2015 Leadership Institute – Debrief

Overall the survey results were positive with a few remarks that some of the printed material was hard to read (need to print slides larger). Roger Dixon attended the training and stated that the diversity of the courses were good and the networking was even better. Jill Francis also attended and stated she went in to the training with no big expectations and thought it was great and that it was nice to see State DCSS staff in attendance. Cassandra Holzhauer stated she was able to attend a few sessions (and instructed a session) and thought that Budget course should not be presented on the first day in the afternoon (should be taught in the morning).

  1. 2016 Leadership Institute (North) – Logistics

Lisa Bispham reported that the 2016 Leadership Institute will be held August 15 – 19, 2016 at the Sacramento County Department of Child Support Services. The schedule as proposed would be to start at 1 pm on Monday, August 15 and conclude at noon on Friday, August 19. The committee agreed that the training would be capped at 40 attendees and that the target audience would be Directors, Deputy/Assistant Directors, Managers and Supervisors.

  1. Agenda Development

The committee reviewed the agenda from last year’s training. Kari Gilbert suggested a pre-session on Budget (so that it would be an options session for attendees). The following are some suggestions for thought; Public Engagement workshop and Management Focused Skills (suggested speakers: Phyllis Nance and Terrie Hardy-Porter). It was also suggested to create a pre-assessment to send out to attendees (we will discuss further at next meeting).

  1. Director Mentorship Program Update

Tamara Thomas reported that Lesley Bell stated that DCSS was still intending to provide a New Director Orientation/Program. Thomas stated that she will discuss further with Membership at the Annual Director Meeting next month. Dixon stated that it was refreshing and helpful for him to attend the New Directors Forum after the Membership meeting. Natalie Dillon stated that she sees the Mentoring Program different than the New Directors Forums. Bispham stated that CSDA will continue holding the forums after the Membership meetings and that CSDA currently shares the New Director Orientation Materials (updated by Sharon and Natalie) with newly appointed Directors.

  1. Next Meeting

Bispham will send out a poll to determine next meeting.
