Pre-race swab samples were taken from DEEJAY BROMAC.

ZIMERO tired over the concluding stages.

TERRORCAM which broke after the start has been placed out of the draw for future mobile start events. TERRORCAM then continued to gallop for some distance and underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. The gelding was stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

FIERCE TURBULENCE was inconvenienced after the start by the galloping TERRORCAM.

BUCKINGHAM BOY was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn.

Stewards queried driver Mark Yole (FIERCE TURBULENCE), which started favourite and finished sixth. Mr Yole stated that after restraining from the start that he was of the view that his horse was the best horse in the race and then attempted to put the gelding into the race when the pace eased in the back straight on the first occasion. As he did so driver Clinton Woods (HIGHFLYIN FRED) then kicked up and challenged ZIMERO for the lead before restraining. Mr Yole further stated that it then took him some time to work around HIGHFLYIN FRED to the position outside the leader. FIERCE TURBULENCE was then unable to finish the race off. Stewards accepted Mr Yole’s explanation. Stewards also queried driver Clinton Woods(HIGHFLYIN FRED) who stated that in the back straight on the first occasion when the pace eased he pushed forward to challenge for the lead as FIERCE TURBULENCE moved forward three wide. When unable to head ZIMERO he attempted to restrain to take a trail behind FIERCE TURBULENCE however his drive raced fiercely as he attempted to restrain. Stewards accepted Mr Wood’s explanation.

RACE 3 – DAKIN REFRIGERATION DIVISION TWO – 2150 METRES

Pre-race swab samples were taken from RAINBOW PHOENIX and BUMBLE DON.

Pre-race swab samples were taken from SAFETY GIRL and MASTER CHARLIE.

JOAN GRANT which broke in the middle stages of the score-up has been placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.

SAFETY GIRL broke just prior to release point. ONE MANS PASS which was drawn behind that filly was momentarily inconvenienced.

LAUGHYAHEADOFF raced rough in the score up after contacting the barrier arm shortly before the start.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the whip use of driver John Walters (PUNTER KARALTA).

Stewards delayed the all-clear to this event in order to view the film of the start and also to consider a protest lodged by driver Paul Hill (MASTER CHARLIE) against JOAN GRANT (Todd Rattray) being declared co-third place getter. After taking evidence from both drivers, viewing the films of the concluding stages and acting on their own observations Stewards could not be satisfied that Mr Rattray was solely responsible for the interference which occurred to MASTER CHARLIE and also considered the fact that Mr Hill did not stop driving his horse at any stage in the home straight and dismissed the protest. After viewing the film of the start, taking evidence from starter Greg Watson and drivers Allister Woods and Gareth Rattray and analysing the printout of the mobile speed in the score-up which indicated that the mobile reached the pre-set release speed shortly before the start then maintained that speed until the start, Stewards formed the view that all runners were afforded a fair start and the all-clear was then declared on the judge’s numbers.

RACE 6 – VANDENBERG TRANSPORT CARRICK CUP – 2650 METRES

Pre-race swab samples were taken from DELIVERTHEGOODS, HES MAGIC RED, DRILLER MAC and WHISPER JET NZ.

GENERAL

New Norfolk Pacing Club – 26th January 2015 – Race 4

Stewards inquired into the reasons for VILLAGE ME (Dylan Ford) contacting marker pegs on the home turn, shortly before entering the home straight. Mr Ford stated that his horse had hung in whilst tiring and shifted in despite his efforts and then when attempting to shift back out he was unable to do so as TIZYALATOR (Adrian Duggan) had fractionally shifted down. Stewards took no action against Mr Ford giving him the benefit of the doubt as to whether it was his horse’s racing manners, noting there was no head on back straight film available of the event.

New Norfolk Pacing Club – 26th January 2015 – Race 7

Stewards inquired into the reasons for HIGHFLYIN FRED breaking on the first turn. Taking evidence from drivers Clinton Wood (HIGHFLYIN FRED) and Dylan Ford (COOKED BOOKS) it was established that COOKED BOOKS was in the three wide position with HIGHFLYIN FRED to its outside. HIGHFLYIN FRED was then restrained by its driver in an effort to gain a trail on the back of COOKED BOOKS and Mr Woods shifted when insufficiently clear of Mr Ford’s wheel resulting in HIGHFLYIN FRED contacting the offside sulky wheel of COOKED BOOKS and then breaking loosing ground as a result. Mr Woods pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 168(1) and was fined the sum of $100. In determining penalty stewards considered Mr Woods’ relative driving inexperience, good driving record to date and his guilty plea.
