Bullet Point – Summer Hours of Operation
Without a doubt Summer time is here. Temperatures are on the rise and many of you have retreated to cooler climates. As the club slows down during the summer months the Board of Directors and management team will be introducing New “Summer Hours of Operations” for the Food and Beverage department. These new hours of operation will run from July 5th – September 27th. After September 27th our plan is to revert back to normal hours of operation.
With these new hours we will be closing the Dining room on Wednesday nights during this period. These “Summer Hours” will have no effect on our current daily operational hours or Sunday Brunch. Below is the schedule we will follow for this time period:
Bar: Opens Tuesday – Friday and Sunday at 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM plus Dining Room hours
Opens Saturday at 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM plus Dining Room hours
Dining Room Lunch: Opens at 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM Tuesday – Saturday
Dining Room Dinner: Thursday – Saturday 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Sunday Brunch: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
As you might expect we will have to move some of the current specialty nights around but we will continue to offer these nights while adding some additional functions and specialty nights. Such as:

  • Beach Night Cook Out
  • Dessert Contest Night
  • Guns and Oil Beer Tasting (New Beer on the market – no guns please)
  • Wine Tasting

Thank you in advance for your corporation.

Golf Course Maintenance
by John Zuniga
On behalf of the Golf Course Maintenance Department we would like to wish you a “Happy Independence Day” and give a special “thank you” to all the men and woman serving in our Armed Forces around the world!
The nights are short, the days are long, and the temperatures are high! This can only mean on thing – Summer Time is here! For the golf course that means – irrigation and lots of it! Hand watering greens, using roller base impact sprinklers for “hot spots” and afternoon misting’s. All in efforts to cool the turf canopy and maintain an adequate moisture level in our sand based soil. This always pose’s its own challenges this time of year because of what it requires to keep the overall health of the turf in good shape throughout the summer months. There are miles of underground pipe that will break at any given time, thousands of sprinklers that can break, not rotate, become clogged or just choose not to work, and miles of electrical lines that seem to be a tasty treat for our friend “the gopher”. Plus, 21 field controller’s (these boxes are what turn the water off and on) that have many electrical components that short out at any given time and can take hours to trouble shoot and repair the problem. With a pump station, we pray will last the season without any major problems. Oh yes! Summer time and irrigation is a wonderful time of year, indeed!
Weed control has begun and you may notice some yellowing of desired turf. This is a byproduct of the weed control program and will only be temporary, but is necessary. It is important to remember that “total” weed control will take a few seasons, yet is achievable with time…. “If only we could have the rains timed in our favor.” The rain is good for us but can also work against us when it comes to weed control. Yet, I have learned to be happy with what mother nature gives me, weather I want it or not! There is always a benefit.
I hope everyone enjoys their summer! Remember to stay cool, take breaks, and drink plenty of water!

Recipe of the Month
Turn your favorite summer pie into an easy creamy lime and graham cracker frozen treat.
Test Kitchen Tip: You don't need fancy ice pop molds to make these pops. Try using basic tools you already have in your kitchen, such as small paper cups, a loaf pan, large ice cube trays or even empty yogurt containers.
TOTAL TIME:0:20
LEVEL:EASY
YIELD:12 POPS
INGREDIENTS

  • 6 graham crackers (for chocolate, sub in 16 chocolate wafer cookies)
  • 1/4 c. (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 oz. (1/2 package) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. finely grated lime zest
  • 1/4 c. fresh lime juice
  • 1 c. very cold heavy cream
  • 12 3-oz. paper cups (we used Dixie)
  • 12 Wooden craft sticks

DIRECTIONS

  1. In the bowl of a food processor, pulse the graham crackers to form fine crumbs. Add the butter and pulse to combine.
  2. In the large bowl of an electric mixer, using the whisk attachment, beat the cream cheese on low speed until smooth. With the mixer running, gradually add the sweetened condensed milk, then the lime zest and juice.
  3. Add the cream, and then increase the speed until mixture is thick and soft peaks form, 3 to 4 minutes. Divide among the cups (about 5 tablespoons per cup). Top with the graham mixture and lightly press down to flatten.
  4. Transfer the cups to a small rimmed baking sheet and push a craft stick halfway down into each cup. Freeze until firm, at least 6 hours.
  5. When ready to serve, peel the cups away from the pops.

Do’s and don’ts of golf etiquette
Do:
Respect the rules and regulations of the course you are playing.
Be patient with beginning players, provide assistance when possible. Remember we all have the responsibility to make the game fun for everyone
Play at a reasonable pace.
Repair ball marks, replace divots, and rake bunkers.
Know your local course rules as well as the USGA rules.
All golfers should play ready golf.
Let the winner of the previous hole tee off first at the next tee.
Turn in every score for handicap purposes.
Don’t:
Hold up other players.
Move or talk while someone in your group is hitting the ball.
Ask your opponent what club they hit.
Walk across the line of another player’s putt on the green.
Hit your shots until the group in front of you is well out of range.
Never play when lightning is in the area.
Be like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack.
While the game is on the decline throughout the country we still have many people coming to the game. Many of these are new golfers and may not completely understand all the written or unwritten rules of the game. We are all ambassadors of the game and it will take us all to bring life back to the game.Remember that current members are our best resource for new members and helping others enjoy the game.

PRACTICE TIP FOR BETTER BALL STRIKING
Next time you go practice put a tee in the ground approximately two inches
in front of the ball. The goal is to hit the ball first and the tee second each swing.
This simple drill will help improve your distance and accuracy.
Reminder: During these extremely hot months be sure to stay hydrated and wear
light colored and moisture wicking clothing. Looking forward to Fall!

TENNIS TIP OF THE MONTH
Hit and Recover
So many players will hit a ball and watch the ball and compliment themselves on the shot. From now on you must hit and recover.
I suggest you watch the pros- it actually looks like the pros are recovering in the middle of their hit. I don't suggest going to that extreme. Just hit, finish and get back to position.

Rockport Country Club - MGA
by Arno Penshorn
Several MGA members had brought up the idea that it would be nice to have popcorn in the 19th hole. After discussions, the MGA purchased one and donated it to the club. It seems to be a hit, and is something for all club members and guests to enjoy.
As of newsletter press time, only one tournament has been played this month. This was won in a playoff by the team of:
Charles Giesey, Dick Yeager, John Hitchcock and David Denham
Congratulations to them.
On a final note, it was decided to move the start time to 9:00 for the Thursday tournaments instead of 12:30. This should help us a little bit with the summer heat.
Hope to see you on the course,
Arno
