I. POSITION INFORMATION

JOB TITLE: Graduate Assistant, CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center

SUPERVISOR: Lana Talampas, Training & Education Specialist

II. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The CARE Office is an independent confidential campus resource which provides education and support services for those impacted by sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. CARE serves as the primary point of contact for victims and survivors who need advocacy, support services and/or assistance with reporting options. All members of the University community who receive information or reports from victims/survivors take proactive steps to refer individuals to the CARE Office.

III. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Under the direct supervision of the Training & Education Specialist, the Graduate Assistant will play a key role in coordinating the CARE Peer Education Program. The GA will specifically focus on assisting with student development plans for each peer educator that align with the goals of CARE’s Peer Education efforts. The GA will be assisting the Training & Education Specialist with development, analysis, implementation and evaluation of the department’s student peer education, internship and volunteer programs. In addition, GA will assist with developing assessment plans for CARE educational programs and compiling reports on the department’s efforts. The Graduate Assistant will meet with the Training & Education Specialist on a regular basis in order to provide/receive feedback, evaluate the assistantship experience, and discuss career goals and interests.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist Training & Education Specialist with developing and implementing training and work modules for CARE student staff.
  1. Provide daily work direction to CARE student staff. Coordinate student work schedules, student meeting schedules, follow-up with student programming assignments.
  1. Co-facilitate weekly CARE student staff meetings. Meet with each student staff member one-to-one to assist Training & Education Specialist with general supervision.
  1. Serve as a CARE staff representative and various educational programming events, including tabling, workshops, trainings and campus events.
  1. Assist with hiring, recruitment, and training all new student staff.
  1. Assist Training & Education Specialist with evaluating and providing feedback to all student staff within the department on a quarterly and annual basis.
  1. Assist with various prevention educational program assessments, statistical reports, and research projects.
  1. Other projects and duties as assigned.

V. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED FOR ASSISTANTSHIP

1.General understanding of student leadership development.

  1. General understanding of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking prevention efforts in a University setting.
  1. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  1. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  1. Ability to work well in a team environment.
  1. Experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Excel (Pivot Table preferred), Word, PowerPoint.
