HANDS-ON LAB: PART 1
_____ In the lesson, print the “Where Are the Planets” chart for the current month:

_____ Print the data tables for both parts of the assignment: Data Table: Part I Data Table: Part II
_____ Go outside on a clear night and record a description of your location (i.e., state, city, and a
specific area, such as the backyard), as well as the date and time of your observation.
· When the date and time change, record information in a new data chart for each day
_____ Use your “Where Are the Planets” chart to find all the planets visible in the sky.
_____ Draw the position of each planets on the ecliptic plane of the chart.
_____ Record the name of each planet observed in Data Table: Part I
_____ Use reliable online or print resources to research each planet’s position relative to Earth and sun
_____ In the Research Component portion of Data Table: Part I, record the information and draw the
location of the planet’s position using a “top-down” view of the solar system
HANDS-ON LAB: PART 2
_____ Print another “Where Are the Planets” chart for a month of your choice
_____ Use the Internet or other print resources to determine the planets that would be visible that
month and record the information in Data Table: Part II
_____ Describe the procedure you used to complete the activity in Data Table: Part II.
VIRTUAL LAB: PART 1 and 2
_____ Follow the same instructions from the hands-on lab for filling out the charts and data table but
using the Stellarium Program
_____ Attach the document to assessment and submit
