What does SMART stand for?
Sexual Misconduct Advocate Response Team
Who are we?
S.M.A.R.T is a group of dedicated volunteers, comprised of
WNEU students, who are trained in assisting and providing
support to those who have been affected by sexual misconduct,
and educate the WNEU campus about these issues.
Application Process
~Applications are available in Counseling Services, and on the Counseling Services website.
~Applications may be turned into Dr. Carpenter in the Counseling Services office located in Room 249 on the second floor of the campus center.

advanced to the interview phase.
3. Members are required to attend weekly meetings which will be determined at a later

Possible Interview Questions
1. How would you handle a situation where someone says something to you that you would find offensive?
2. One of your friends tells you that they love going to Gateway, “because you can hook up with any drunk person you can find.” What do you do? Does it differ if it is a male or female?
3. One of you female friends said a male friend of yours assaulted her after a party on Saturday; she was extremely drunk and doesn’t remember a lot of what happened. How would you handle the situation?
4. You are on call and on you way to take a final exam…the phone rings five minutes before you need to leave, what would you do?
5. In what situation would a women lie about being assaulted?
6. How could a person avoid sexual assault?
7. After weighing her options, a friend of yours decided to have an abortion. She asks you to take her. What do you do? How would you feel about your decision?
8. A female friend is in an abusive relationship. She left him a month ago and went back a week later. She left again and stayed with you last week after he gave her a black eye. You helped her find a new place to stay, but after a long talk with him, she moved back in with him two nights ago. She just called you this morning and needs your help. What do you do?

You’re having one of those weeks where anything that can pile up on you is…you have a huge test this week, a major project due tomorrow, your roommate broke up with her partner and is having a hard time, and you need to find a job. You are just stressed in general. How do you feel you would react to this situation and what would you do?
16. How do you prioritize and choose what is most important to you?
17. When on call, only in an emergency situation can you give up the phone. What do you consider an emergency?
18. How would you deal with a victim survivor who makes a decision you don’t agree with (not going to counseling, not reporting the event, not telling their parents, not leaving their partner, getting an abortion, persons of a different sexual orientation than you, etc.)?
19. What do you do if you have believed in something your entire life and then one day you find out it isn’t true?
20. We can’t choose everybody to be in SMART, so why should we choose you?
21. You are working on a group project for class. One person in your group is not pulling their weight. If they show up at all for scheduled meetings, they are usually late and they aren’t completing their portion of the workload. Who would you go to in this situation and what would you say? What if it was one of your best friends?
22. A sexual assault survivor tells you who assaulted them and you happen to know this person. You see them around campus, how would you react?
