Summer Robotics Workshops
Offered to Students
LEGO® Robotics: Grades 4-6
Introduction to Robotics
Jun 4-6, M-W, 9:00 –11:30
$90 tuition
Students in this fun, introductory class explore engineering concepts, build various robots, and learn to program them to use sensors and display desired behaviors.
Intermediate Robotics
June 25-28, M-Th, 9:00-11:30
$120 tuition
An extension of the introductory course, this class will challenge the students with building additional robots and learning to program new sensors and behaviors, and will end with a creative challenge for the newly gained programming skills.
LEGO® Robotics: Grades 6-12
Basic Robotic Challenges
Jun 4-7, M-Th, 1:00-4:00
$120 tuition
A serious learning experience combining hands-on construction, programming techniques, and a final, fun challenge requiring a stretch of creativity. Each student will work at his/her own pace to build and program two or three robots and then take on the creative challenge.
VEX™ Robotics: Grades 7-12
July 16-19, M-Th, 9:00-12:00
$120 tuition
VEX is a relatively new robotics system that is used in major challenges including the prestigious FIRST competition and can also be used in the Science Olympiad. This class allows each student to construct a variety of VEX robots utilizing both autonomous (programmed) control and radio remote control.
Underwater ROV’s:
Grades 6-12
Introduction to ROV’s
July 2&3, 9:00-12:00, or
July 5&6, 9:00-12:00, or
Aug 6&7, 9:00-12:00
$80 tuition
This is a fun, introductory class to building underwater remotely operated vehicles. Students will explore concepts of buoyancy and electricity, then build an operational underwater robot which they will use to solve a challenge in our test tank.
Advanced, “Keeper” ROV’s
July 9-11, 9:00-12:00, or
Aug 8-10, 9:00-12:00
$90 tuition + $185 materials ($275 total)
Students will build an operational underwater ROV which they can take home when finished. They will learn to prepare and use and underwater camera,, wire the control box and motors and assemble them on their own ROV to meet challenges in our test tank and in their own pool, lake or river.
Family ROV’S
May 16-17, 5:00-8:00
$90 tuition
A child/parent partnership workshop for students 3rd grade and above. The pair will exlore buoyancy and electricity and get to build an underwater ROV to meet a challenge in our test tank.
Group sizes in all classes are limited to 12 students. For information, applications, and photos from workshops, go to http://www.edserv.sjcoe.net/robotics/HOME.html or contact Jim Bock at or 209-468-9117
