KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION 2016

August 11,2016

Dear Parentsand/or Guardian:

Welcome to Arleth Elementary School! We are most excited to have you and your child join our Full Day Kindergarten Program. Parents and teachers play an active role in a child’s education. With that in mind, we look forward to a successful partnership with you.

In order to acquaint you and your child to Arleth School, we have planned a Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.located in the Gymnasium. Please note that although this is the first day of school, kindergarten students will not report to school in the morning. They will come with their parents at 1:30. You may park on the lower blacktop area or at Spezzi’s funeral home. We will be using the Gymnasium entrance. Doors will open at approximately 1:20.

At the Kindergarten Orientation, we will present a brief overview of our program, share information, and provide your child an opportunity to visit the classroom. You will meet your child’s Kindergarten teacher, school nurse, librarian, and Special Services staff. The PTOwill be available to share some of the wonderful activities that may be scheduled throughout the school year. This time is made available to you so that you become more familiar with our policies, procedures and routines. You will receive another packet of information in the mail within the next couple of weeks. This packet will include a welcome letter and directions to access the parent portal. The parent portal will provide you a means to access your child’s schedule, transportation information and the ability to monitor your child’s progress throughout the year. Additional forms and information may also be included.

Kindergarten registration and screening will continue throughout the month of August. There may be a new family in your neighborhood that has not registered their child yet. Please share this information with them.

Please make the time to attend our Kindergarten Orientation program even if one of your children has already enjoyed our Kindergarten experience. Keep in mind that Kindergarten placement and student classroom assignments will be developed based upon a combination of factors. These will include balance of student population by gender, age, performance as indicated from the Kindergarten Screening and special education student needs. It is our goal to develop heterogeneous communities of learners for each of our classrooms.

Should you feel that there are exceptional aspects to your child’s growth and development, pre-school education, familial custody issues, or transportation needs, please feel free to contact me as soon as possible. September placements are planned early in the summer.

We look forward to meeting with you at the Kindergarten Orientation to begin a partnership on behalf of your child. Again, please feel free to call me should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Robert Preston

Principal of Arleth Elementary School
