I will always remember the University of Minnesota Speech Camp for Kids Who Stutter. This is my 6th and final year here at camp, and every time it has been a great, fun, and amazing experience. If you are a parent who has a child who stutters that is still eligible to come to camp, I would highly recommend them coming back to camp for a variety of reasons. I am going to give a few reasons.

One of the reasons I enjoyed speech camp was because of the amazing opportunity to meet other stutterers. This is a wonderful experience, because you can realize that you are not alone in your stuttering and there are many people your same age going through the same things that you are. You are also able to share stories with other stutterers, learn from each other’s experiences and learn new strategies and techniques.

Another reason why I enjoyed speech camp was that you meet amazing adults and college students who care about you. It is great to know that people have your back, and that they can help you with your speech if you are having a tough time.

A third reason I really enjoyed this speech camp is that you learn tips for bully prevention and how to deal with those who might tease you. You can also learn how to educate people about stuttering who might be curious about it, like your friends or in public.

A fourth reason I really enjoyed the camp is that it teaches you to learn to deal with your stuttering. By this I mean learning to accept it as a part of you and that it is not your fault. I also learned that is important to not let it bother you or make you do things differently, like not talking and doing things that negatively impact the rest of your life.

I also enjoyed speech camp because you have lots of fun here going on field trips and doing activities in small or large groups. Some of my favorite field trips were: TCF Bank Stadium, McDonalds, the Raptor Center, bowling and many others. I also had a lot of fun in the large and small group discussions that happened every session.

Also, a special thank you to Linda, Joel, and Erin. They have been at the camp every year that I have been, and I have learned a lot from them and they have helped and guided me. I have had fun with them every year!

In conclusion, I really enjoyed the University of Minnesota Camp for Kids who Stutter, and it will always be a great memory!
