CODE OF GOOD CONDUCT

Harambee Institute of science and Technology Charter School is a building to be proud of, however a building does not make a school, it is the people at Harambee. The goal of the administration and staff is to help each student achieve success both in his/her studies and in his/her growth and development as a person.

Each student has responsibilities toward reaching this goal. To help clarify these responsibilities, the following CODE OF GOOD CONDUCT is ENFORCED TO FACILITATE EACH STUDENT’S ABILITY TO ACHIEVE ACADEMIC and PERSONAL GROWTH:

1.  All students shall be responsible for classroom participation and completion of all assignments.

2.  Respect for all adults, fellow students, school regulations, property, and personal belongings shall be observed.

3.  All students are expected to be cooperative, polite and demonstrate fair play while in school and attending school-related activities.

4.  Respect, self-control and good citizenship are expected from all students at all times.

5.  Proper and appropriate language shall be used at all times.

6.  Appropriate grooming, clean uniforms, and personal appearance are the responsibility of the student. Outdoor and play clothing are not to be worn inside the school facilities.

Dress and grooming are important factors in determining children’s attitudes toward school. A child, who comes to school neat and clean and dressed comfortably, but in good taste, helps to set a good school climate.

The schedules set by the school.

8.  Good table manners and appropriate cafeteria behavior are always expected.

9.  All students are requested to walk (not run) while in the school building and on their way to and from the school playground.

10.  Absolute obedience for fire drills and other emergencies is required.

11.  All students are expected to keep the school building and grounds clean and neat. Dispose of waste papers and trash in the proper receptacles.

12.  All students are expected to observe acceptable and respectable audience behavior while participating in large group activities.

13.  All students are to follow routine lines of communication. Students’ concerns should be directed to the person (teacher or assistant) who is on duty or responsible for the group or activity. If a teacher or assistant is not available, report concerns to the Main Office.

14.  Students are not permitted to use cell phones or other such electronic devices during school for any purpose (Making Calls, Video Taping, Taking Pictures or Texting). Students are not allowed to bring toys or electronic games to school. Failure to obey this rule will result in disciplinary action (Infraction Reports, Suspension) and/or confiscating of the item.

15.  Harambee Charter School has an established Liberated Safe Zone that spans from the school to a three (3) block radius in every direction.
