PERSONAL STATEMENT

I have a long-standing interest in the interaction between the endocrine, the immune and the nervous systems. My research interest is to develop novel antibody or protein-based therapies to address the pathogenic mechanisms of various human diseases. One area of my therapeutic pursuit is to use receptor agonist antibodies to mimic the neurotrophic factors in the treatment of metabolic disorders and neuropathy. I also investigate the common pathogenic mechanism, e.g. amyloid peptides, in both Alzheimer’s disease and age-related macular degeneration. In addition, my laboratory has recently unveiled major roles of the cytokine interleukin 7 in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes.
