GREAT CONCERN FOR STUDENTS NOT PASSING DUE TO MISSING WORK:

After researching the data, we have a number of students not meeting the mark due to missed work. Although this is a small percentage of our student body, we don’t want any student failing. Zeroes are not acceptable for our Lovinggood scholars. The assignments are reasonable and reachable and the majority of these students are not passing because they have not submitted the work. This causes problems for both the students and the teachers.

HERE IS OUR SCHOOL WIDE APPROACH AND PLAN: Here’s a heads up: This year marks the first year that we will be averaging 2 grades to determine placement vs. 4 grades (as in the past). This means that we all (teachers, parents and students) have to work together and work harder in terms of accountability for turning in assignments on time and getting the best results. We need to regroup and make sure that these students understand the seriousness of completing assignments. Although many teachers are very open to accepting late work, it is my desire that our students understand the importance of managing their time and meeting deadlines while learning and understanding the standards. As a way to restore the rightful place of “Student Success,” we are offering two SATURDAY GRACE DAYS. NOVEMBER 22ND AND DECEMBER 6TH. What does this mean? Well, if your child has missed work, he/she can come to school on one or both of the designated Saturdays to complete AND turn in the work. That’s correct 2 school wide catch up days is what this amounts to. Here are the criteria; he/she must attend in order to earn the credit. We cannot and will not make any provisions for attendance. We cannot accommodate convenience of days or time etc. We are simply offering two cold opportunities to catch up. Considering that the first semester grade now greatly impacts the 2nd semester grade, we must do all we can to earn success now. We will send a detailed letter home to the students on the day we distribute progress reports with more information about these opportunities. The Saturdays are totally optional but if the student does not take advantage of the Saturday Grace days for missed work, understand the grade of zero remains for those assignments.

We are in the business of student success, this is our effort to address the concern and obtain that.

Feel free to contact the administration if you have questions or concerns.

Georgia Parent Survey – Please take time to complete the climate survey.

CCRPI is a comprehensive school improvement, accountability, and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that will promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students. It is the score that you see when you visit our school in the entrance foyer. The survey is one factor is developing the rating for our school.

Data from the Georgia Student Health Survey 2.0, the Georgia School Personnel Survey and the Georgia Parent Survey along with other sources will be used in the calculation of a School Climate Star Rating which is a diagnostic tool within the CCRPI.

The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. A Spanish version of the parent survey will be available soon. Parents will be able to complete the survey using their personal computers, smartphones or iPads. All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below.

HONOR is defined as high respect, worth, merit, or rank. Realizing that Veteran’s Day is Tuesday, November 11th, we want to be sure to honor our respected military and share their importance with our students. To actually teach the students to honor respected servicemen and women who contribute to society, can sometimes be missed. We will be replacing the next “HAWK TIME” day with an activity that allows our students to show HONOR and RESPECT to those who serve our country.

Thanks so much!
