Teaching and Learning Overview – P6
Term: Jan-Mar 2017
Learning Context: Interdisciplinary – Social Studies / Science / ECO / Literacy
Literacy and English: Using fiction and non-fiction texts, we will learn to identify the purpose and main ideas of a text and use supporting detail. Through written text we will select, organise and convey information in different ways, sharing our viewpoints and making use of vocabulary and language to persuade the reader. In listening and talking activities we will develop our confidence when engaging with others; and learn to develop an informed view using a variety of texts.
In French we will extend our vocabulary linked to building up personal profiles of ourselves.
Numeracy and Maths: We will continue to focus on implementing numeracy strategies, including mental agility, to support our learning. We will be developing and applying our knowledge of subtraction, division and fractions. We will also extend our knowledge and understanding of angles.
Health and Wellbeing: In physical education, through basketball, we will develop our communication; respect and tolerance and team work skills. We will increase our knowledge of wellbeing and develop self-awareness, self-worth and respect for others.
Social Studies and Science: We will enhance our knowledge of the contributions that individuals are making to scientific discovery and invention and the impact this is making on society. We will investigate the use and development of non-renewable and renewable energy to raise awareness of the impact on the environment in Scotland and beyond.
We will be carrying out personal projects at home linked to our topic (information to follow).
We will enhance our knowledge of Robert Burns and present our findings to an audience.
Homework: Reading for a Monday, Spelling for a Friday and Maths for a Friday.
How you can support: Encourage your child to take ownership and responsibility for completing tasks accurately and in good time.
