Lesson Plan GRADE 10 Beginning Use of

Time Required:Two 40 minute sessions

Content Standards: 7.2.2. Standard 5: Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and

satisfaction.

Indicators: e. Students will use research and information resources to obtain career information.

f. Students will learn to use the Internet to access career planning information.

GOAL: The counselor willassist students in registering to use the CFWV web site and provide an introductory session on using the the site for exploration of career opportunities.

Activity Statement:

To assist students in developing their Five Year Plan (10th Grade ISTP) The counselor will assist students in securing a user name and password, as well as, assisting them in understanding and beginning to use the CFWV web site to create an electronic portfolio and researching information on at least 3-5 careers in the areas of the student’s interest.

Materials:

Procedures: Counselor will:

1)attend a training session to understand how to support student and staff use of the website. Counselors may check about training opportunities by going to: or by contacting Heather McChesney or by calling the WV Higher Education Policy Commission at 304.558.2101.

2)introduce students to the CFWV web site and explain the benefits of its use to create the student portfolio.

3)assist students in registering to use the CFWV web site. Remind students to write down their usernames and passwords.

4)distribute to and review with students the activities guidelines designed to assist them with maximizing benefits of the website.

5)explain the online portfolio component and get students started.

6)allow students to explore careers in the areas of their interest from the CFWV web site as well as create an electronic or written portfolio of their results.

Extension Activities:

1)Students may also wish to explore the use of the career assessment component of the CFWV web site as well as the career information available

2)Students may wish to explore post secondary educational opportunities using the CFWV web site and store the information to their electronic portfolio or to their career folder.
