Current Drug Trends

Conference Goal
The purpose of this continuing education program is to enable the learner to better understand current drug trends and the impact of drug use in order to facilitate understanding, care and support of clients and patients.

Target Audience

Nurses and social workers working in perinatal settings

Objectives
Describe the effects of secondhand and third hand smoke on pregnancy and children

Define current drugs of use and abuse

Identify health risks of using substance

Discuss current laws and pending legislation

Perinatal Addictions

Conference Goal
The purpose of this continuing education program is to enable the learner to understand the impact of alcohol
and other drugs on the mother and fetus when used during pregnancy, so the learner can provide improved

education, care and support to patients/clients.

Target Audience

Nurses and social workers working in perinatal settings

Objectives

Recall the historical implications of alcohol use and pregnancy

Identify the diagnostic criteria for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Compare Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

Recognize the effect of other drugs on the developing fetus

Discuss the effect of the father’s use of drugs on the developing fetus
