Dog and Cat Pre-Operative Instruction Sheet

$$Animal Name$$ is booked in for surgery at our practice. Please ensure that they do not have any food from midnight the night before they come in for their procedure. They can have access to water as normal. Please keep cats inside the night before surgery so that you can make sure you can bring them in.

Make sure your pet is clean before coming into the surgery and if possible allow them to go to the toilet before they arrive.

Normal drop-off is between 8.45 and 9.30am unless a different time has been pre-arranged with the practice. If your pet has already had their pre-op check they will be admitted straight away and you will be asked to sign their consent forms. If they have not had their pre-op check then this will be done on the same morning as the procedure.

Please ask a member of staff for an estimate if you do not have one already. Depending on the nature of the operation further costs may be incurred on the day but the vet will ring you and discuss these with you. It is therefore important that you are able to be contacted by telephone whilst your animal is in. It is your responsibility to make sure that your contact details are up to date, if we cannot contact you we may have to abandon the procedure.

Most patients are treated as day patients and will go home during the same afternoon or early evening. Normally you should call the practice at 2.30pm to arrange a time to collect your pet. If your pet needs to be kept in overnight or sent to the night centre you will be contacted to discuss this.

If you are unable to keep the appointment made for you, please contact the surgery and inform us as soon as possible.

If you have any queries or worries please do not hesitate to call.

Please note that on very rare occasions we may have to postpone your pre-arranged operation due to an emergency. If this happens we will contact you, normally your pet can be boarded for free overnight to do the procedure the following day if you wish.
