About Town With James Cameron

You are cordially invited to participate in an evening "About Town With James Cameron," a modified progressive dinner sponsored by the Milton Historical Society. For a suggested minimum donation of $40, you will enjoy a gourmet dinner hosted at the home of one of the Society's members, followed by an evening of dessert and fellowship at the Cameron House, the former residence of the museum's namesake, James Cameron. All proceeds from this event will be used to support the Cameron House museum.

To participate in what is certain to be a memorable evening, simply decide where you would like to have dinner, choosing from the locations and menus described below. Then, telephone the host and make your reservation. Each dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010. After dinner, your host will escort you to the Cameron House for dessert. Dinner reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Your host will provide you with directions.

The home of Ron and Faith Clark, 159 Harveys Lane, Milton, is a two-story 1804 limestone farmhouse located at the entrance to Wynding Brook Golf Club. Additions to the house were built at the close of the Civil War and again in 1986. In 1927 the home became the clubhouse for Otzinachson Country Club. Today, after the latest renovation, the home is a mix of styles, both old and new. The menu for the evening will include shrimp & asparagus soup, mixed greens salad, crown roast of pork, stuffing, baked corn and vegetables. Phone 742-4931 to make your reservation.

The home Mike and Sharon Craig, 47 Derr Drive, Milton, is a three-story home with a contemporary look that was built in 1974. It sits on a wooded lot, giving it a country home feel in the middle of town. The Craigs have lived in North Hills for 20 years and have decorated the house in a traditional style that includes a number of family heirlooms and American art. The menu for the evening will include spinach salad with honey tarragon vinaigrette, Mayfair lemon chicken, herbed wild rice with roasted pecans and sugar snap peas. The home of Joan Nunn, 21 Main Street, Watsontown, is a Queen Anne Victorian built circa 1893. The house features a heavily-carved entrance hall with an ornate oak staircase and boasts a number of beautiful stained glass windows, tall ceilings and other interesting features typical of the Queen Anne style. The menu for the evening will include roasted carrot ginger soup, baked stuffed flounder Florentine with rice, broiled fresh tomatoes and rolls. Phone 538-9212 to make your reservation.

The home of James Shampanore, 2175 Muddy Run Road, Milton, is the former Muddy Run Schoolhouse. Built in 1870, the building was one of five schoolhouses that served Turbot Township. The property was purchased by Mr. Shampanore in 1987 and has been restored for use as a residence. The schoolhouse maintains many of its original features including windows, floors, wainscoting and moldings. The menu for the evening will include a pear and pecan mélange salad, open face chicken breasts with lump crabmeat and asparagus topped with a parmesan crust, orange scented toasted grains, dried cranberries and steamed baby vegetables. The home of Charles and Amy Woodcock, 240 Broadway, Milton, is a three-story Georgian colonial that was built in 1917 by the Schreyer family and restored by the Woodcocks in 2001. The home features Mercer tile, which lines both the entrance hall and the fireplace hearths, and retains most of its original flooring, woodwork and hardware. The menu for the evening will include shrimp cocktail, a poached pear and walnut salad, whole roasted tenderloin of beef with a cabernet and mushroom reduction and pureed parsnips and potatoes. The home of Deb Owens, 515 High Street, West Milton, is an early 20th century brick house. The home, distinguished by its wrap-around front porch, is filled with four generations of antiques. An antique Knabe rosewood piano graces the front parlor. Collections of Victorian glassware and lusterware are displayed throughout the house. The menu for the evening will include a red beet, goat cheese and hickory nut salad, beef bourguignon, homemade noodles and carrots. Phone 568-5603 to make your reservation.

The home of Douglas Wertz, 3352 White Deer Pike, New Columbia, is a newly constructed colonial-style home along White Deer creek. The home has cheery flooring throughout, multiple fireplaces, many colonial features and accents and is decorated with American antiques and period pieces. The menu for the evening will include a mixed green salad, an Italian soup with sausage and kale, breaded chicken breasts in a garlic parmesan cream sauce, green beans and harvard beets. The home of John Meckley, 478 South Mill Road, Milton, is a federal-style farmhouse overlooking Montour Ridge just outside of Potts Grove. The current structure has roots dating to as early as 1812 and includes 3 fireplaces, wide-plank pine flooring, many original moldings and the original summer kitchen. The menu for the evening will include a grilled romaine salad with bacon and red onion vinaigrette, garlic and herb-infused pork tenderloin, bourbon-smashed sweet potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts.
