BAY AREA GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION
GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 12, 2009
ATTENDING:
President Watson Holyfield opened the meeting with prayer at 7:10 PM. He introduced first time guests Marlin and Debbie Giles of Clear Lake.
Watson read the January birthdays. We sang to Joe Glass.
The first mini-concert was given by Board Member Ray Walker. He sang his testimony song, “The Old Man Is Dead”, “He Made a Believer Out Of Me”, and “When Mama Prayed”. Ray also sings with That Other Trio and Footprints.
Secretary Wilma Morrison read the minutes of the November Meeting. Tootsie Dann moved they be accepted as read and Mike Cotter seconded. Watson mentioned the wording was incorrect on the ballots given out at the meeting for the election of Board Member. Wilma corrected them and all approved.
Treasurer Sally Currey read the November and December Treasurer’s Reports. Sharon Arnhart moved they be accepted as read, Arnold Carpenter seconded and all approved. Sally mentioned she would take renewals tonight that are due.
Watson apologized for missing another first time visitor, Barbara Martin, Myron Morrison’s daughter visiting from Virginia. She and husband Larry are BAGMA Sponsors.
Wilma asked if everyone had received their January/February Trumpet. Those not receiving theirs included League City, Channelview, Pasadena, and LaPorte. They were mailed on January 2nd.
In the absence of our Showcase Coordinator Joann Kotal, Watson gave the information for the Showcases: January 31st showcase at Highlands Baptist Church and the February 21st showcase at the First Church of the Nazarene in Alvin.
Watson asked for new prayer requests and praise reports. Vice President Joe Kotal had back surgery last week and will have surgery on an aneurism probably next week; Delphia White’s mother died, Frances Cotter, Mike’s mother, had a pacemaker put in and then suffered a fall, Debbie Holyfield had fallen on her knee that had just been replaced recently, former member Dusty Bolin had some cancer on her face removed, Larry Martin having heart problems, Kathy Ryles’ mother in law, Florence Farris, Eara Lee Ward’s mother, Suzy Sunday, Becky Ivie and Lois Weeks are new grandparents of Alivia Faith Weeks. Arnold Carpenter prayed for these.
Watson announced our Spring Singing Convention will be held April 3rd and 4th at the North Shore Rotary Pavilion on Wallisville. Singers need to call Joann Kotal to get a time slot. Charlie Ruscher and Ray Walker will be in charge of the sound again. Lois Weeks and crew will be doing the program booklet again this year. Make checks for ads to Lois Weeks and then after all the expenses are paid a donation will be made to BAGMA. The deadline for ads will be March 1st. Pictures for ads are better if they are emailed to her.
We had to postpone the scheduled Ladies Meeting due to the hurricane. However, Debbie Holyfield put together a ladies luncheon in December at Pazinni’s restaurant. The ladies decided to make this a quarterly luncheon, open to any lady that would like to come and fellowship and get acquainted with other BAGMA members. More information will come at the next meetings.
We are planning another BAGMA picnic, probably in June. More details later.
BAGMA’s 20th Anniversary will be in June of 2010. We need to begin making plans for our celebration. Contact Nelda Johnson if you have suggestions.
Upcoming singings: Thursday night at New Journey in Baytown, Southern Plainsmen Quartet and Mike Rhea will be singing, The Giles’ daughter and husband will be in San Leon on the 17th and Sunday morning at Calvary Crossroads in Santa Fe and Sunday night at the Wildwood Freewill Baptist in Kingwood; Brian Free will be at 1st Baptist Church of North Channel on February 20th, The Harris Family will be at Munn Street on February 20th, Gold City will be in town on February 28th, and the dove Brothers will be at 1st Baptist Church of North Channel on May 15th.
Crimson Heart gave the last mini concert singing “Where Could I Go”, “Walk Into Heaven With My White Robe On”, “Step Into The Water” and “So Much God”. This is a rather new quartet with the organization.
Watson announced New Psalms is looking for a tenor singer and the Gospel Messengers are looking for singers.
Tootsie Dann and Donna Walker led our theme song “Standing On The Solid Rock”
Ray Walker dismissed the meeting in prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Wilma Morrison Read and approved______
