JOB TITLE: Security Officer

REPORTS TO: Head of Security

OVERALL SUMMARY

This position involves working within a team of Security Officers to provide an efficient and professional security service. The Security Officer will monitor and safeguard the UNISON Centre Head Office, adjacent Residential Development and the Gallery. The security function provides a service to the building between Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 21:30. You will be required to work on Saturdays as per rota to monitor the gallery and to oversee contract work. The post holder may be also requested to work additional hours to offer support to the UNISON Centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Act as a Key holder to the site.

2. Investigating, activating and deactivating of security systems.

3.  To follow agreed procedures for the opening and closing, whilst ensuring safety of the building.

4.  Carry out regular security patrols to ensure a safe and secure environment.

5.  Accurately record, update and maintain the ‘Daily Occurrence book’ with maintenance issues, potential breaches of security or unusual occurrences/ incidents.

6.  Accurately update, maintain and record entries to the ‘Fire Book’. Ability in operating fire panels, follow fire procedures, identify area/device, isolate and enable.

7.  Actively monitor respond and report potential incidents or threats before escalation where possible with appropriate action.

8.  Ensure all security related equipment and working areas are high standard of safety and cleanliness. Ensure all defects are reported to the appropriate department or person.

9.  Ensure UNISON’s CCTV system is effectively, professionally and sensitively monitored in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

7.  Actively maintain confidentiality and convey communication both clearly and promptly through radio communication.

8.  Carry out the weekly fire alarm test and other security equipment, completing the appropriate logs, and notifying the Head of Security of any issues of malfunctioning equipment.

9.  Provide support in an emergency or evacuation situation, in a calm and professional manner. Actively provide information to any emergency services.

10. Assist the facilities staff as required.

11. Conduct, update and maintain routine security administration including the issue of visitor passes, signing in and out keys etc.

12. Admit visitors and contractors as per security policy and procedures. With the ability to understand access levels and access rights.

13. Provide a professional, efficient, and approachable security service with reception duties, maintaining a high level of customer care to staff and visitors at all times.

14. Assist with the management of delivered post in the post room when required to do so. Ensuring suspicious packages/deliveries are dealt with quickly with appropriate action, whilst ensuring own and others safety.

15. To induct contractors and staff to the site as required.

16. Provide access to the site for contractors out of normal office hours.

17. Dealing with enquires, responding to and logging Lost Property according to security procedures.

18. Obtain, update attendance sheets for contractor visits outside of normal working hours. Provide this information to Facilities within a timely manner.

19. To place maintenance calls and other requests e.g. taxis for out of office hours.

20. Respond and assist to lift entrapments. Ensure all exit doors are free of obstructions.

21. Report all Health and Safety issues to the Facilities Helpdesk and take action where required.

22. Liaise and co-operate with the Facilities helpdesk, contractors and emergency services with relevant information promptly.

23. Comply with UNISON’s/Security Fire, Health and Safety, Security policies and procedures.
