Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFC) held their Annual Stockjudging competitions on Sunday 4th October 2009 at Brecon Livestock Market. Competitors had to place and give reasons on four beef cattle, four dairy cows and four lambs. The Pig judging was held on a separate day. For each category of stock ten minutes is allowed for the judging of stock, and a maximum of two minutes is allowed for competitors to give a set of verbal reasons to the judge. Competitors compete in their respective age categories, 26, 21, 18 and 16 years of age or under.

Competitors were competing for the overall trophies in each age group. The Evan Morgan Shield, for the Stockman of the Year 26 years or under was awarded to Jenni Vaughan YFC, Llanigon YFC; The Sennybridge YFC Trophy, for the Stockman of the Year 21 years or under was awarded to Owen Watkins, Llanigon YFC; The Special Award Trophy, for the Stockman of the Year 18 years or under was awarded to Aled R Jones, Troedrhiwdalar YFC and The Robert Davies Trohpy, for the Stockman of the Year 16 years or under was awarded to Nicholas Jones, Libanus YFC.

Beef Judging: first –Mary Phillips, Sennybridge YFC; second – Jenni Vaughan, Llanigon YFC; joint third – Ceri Rees & Haydn Powell, Bwlch & Crickhowell YFC

The Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (BFYFC) has 15 clubs throughout Breconshire and is dedicated to supporting young people in agriculture and the countryside. Their memberships comprise 600 members aged 10 to 26 and they provide a unique opportunity for members to develop skills, work with the local community, travel abroad, take part in a varied competitions programme and enjoy a dynamic social life. The organisation has many volunteers whom are involved in the running of the clubs and NFYFC.
