Session A—6/6-6/17 8:00am-11:00am (CHOOSE ONE)
______Zombie Apocalypse: Geography—Learning land forms, as well as regions, and how to survive in those areas during this event.
_____ Forensic Science: We will debunk the many myths of television crime shows. Forensics will expose students to the actual processes of scientific investigation through working on laboratory and data-collection techniques. This class will also teach how crime scenes and evidence are processed & analyzed so that they are able to be better informed citizens and provide potential career options.
_____ Mural Painting 101: Students will learn the techniques and materials used for mural painting. Famous mural painters will also be incorporated into the lessons and projects. Students will paint murals around doorways at Grandview Elementary.
____Fitness- Agility, Fitnessgram, looking at fitness apps and videos, designing their own workouts, making fitness videos.
_____ Board Games and Learning-In this class you will learn to play different games that promote a variety of skills such as strategic thinking, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, logical thinking, spatial reasoning, and social skills. A few of the games we will be using are: Pandemic, 7 Wonders, Bandu, Dixit, Tobago, and Ticket to Ride.

______Native American History: Learn about a handful of tribes, the foods they ate, as well as their art and way of living.
______Forensic Science: We will debunk the many myths of television crime shows. Forensics will expose students to the actual processes of scientific investigation through working on laboratory and data-collection techniques. This class will also teach how crime scenes and evidence are processed & analyzed so that they are able to be better informed citizens and provide potential career options.
_____ Art Exploration: Students will discuss and create many art projects in this class. From painting to sculpture, a variety of methods will be taught throughout these sessions. The incorporation of famous artists and cultures will also be implemented in this class.
______Sports History- Looking at the history of select sports and then playing the game.
_____ Mathematical Enrichment through Game Play and Coding-In this class you will enhance math skills such as numerical literacy, recognizing patterns, grouping, relationships, spatial awareness and transfer that to coding.
Session C—6/20-7/1 8:00am-11:00am (CHOOSE ONE)

______MDC Ecology: This class will use materials from the Missouri Department of Conservation to allow students to meet many Show-Me Performance Standards using Missouri’s watersheds as examples of how water supports an ecosystem and hands-on activities that help students understand the impact of ecology on Missouri and the world.
_____ Mural Painting 101: Students will learn the techniques and materials used for mural painting. Famous mural painters will also be incorporated into the lessons and projects. Students will paint murals around doorways at Grandview Elementary.
_____ Team Building- Cooperative games, working on team work, problem solving, creating their own game.

______Revolutionary War: We will learn about the heroes and traitors of the country, do fun activities, and dig into the history and facts of the war itself.
______MDC Ecology: This class will use materials from the Missouri Department of Conservation to allow students to meet many Show-Me Performance Standards using Missouri’s watersheds as examples of how water supports an ecosystem and hands-on activities that help students understand the impact of ecology on Missouri and the world.
_____ Art in Cultures around the World:Students will study the art history of other cultures. Including the art depicting the history behind the zombie apocalypse, and many other cultures. We MAY COMBINE with the zombie apocalypse history class taught by Mrs. Irelan.
_____ Team Sports: Learn and play many popular team sports.
_____ Mathematical Enrichment through Game Play and Coding-In this class you will enhance math skills such as numerical literacy, recognizing patterns, grouping, relationships, spatial awareness and transfer that to coding.
Band Classes – grades 7-8: (1/2 credit and is the full summer session 6/6/16-7/1/16)
_____Instrument class – 8:00-11:00
Students going in to grades 7-8 who participate in band during the school year may enroll for this course in which they will have the opportunity to learn a new instrument. Instruments for this class will be provided by the school, however they are limited. Students who wish to enroll in this class need to talk to Mrs. Reuther to ensure the instrument they are wanting to learn will be available.
_____ Concert Band – 11:05-2:25
Students going into grades 7-8 who participate in band during the school year may enroll for this course in which we will play a variety of concert band literature ranging from pop tunes to marches to movie music.
Introduction to Weight Training (Grades 6-8)

Credit Recovery: It is recommended/required that your child attend Summer Academy to obtain credit for their incomplete work in the 1st Semester/2nd Semester in the following subject area(s):

Memo of Understanding:
Course availability is subject to change due to enrollment. In the event an insufficient number of students enroll in a class, the class will either be combined with another class or will be cancelled.
Enrichment Classes with limited enrollment will be filled in the order enrollment forms are received.
Attendance:
Since the Summer School program covers a great deal of material in a short amount of time, punctuality and regular attendance are expected.
Middle School students enrolled in credit recovery courses who miss more than 2 days will not receive credit for the course. Each minute a student is tardy will count toward the maximum 2 days of absence.
Three tardies will equal one absence. A tardy of 5-15 minutes will count as 1/3 absence. A tardy of more than 15 minutes will count as a one hour absence. Parents/guardians should contact the school in the event of special attendance circumstances.
Conduct:
All school conduct codes for the regular school year are in effect during summer school. Students are expected to behave in a manner that does not disrupt the learning process. Students who engage in inappropriate conduct, including sleeping, may be removed from the summer school program by the program administrator.
Summer Dress:
Appropriate dress is required. All school dress codes are in effect for summer school.
- Shoes must be worn at all times
- No hats may be worn in the building
- No halter tops, midriffs, cut-off shorts, bareback, or low cut shirts
- The length of skirts and shorts must extend below the finger tips
- No offensive writing (profanity, obscenity, sexual references, or references to alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs)
