POSITION: Food Service Worker 1 – NCS

REPORTS TO: Cook II Supervisor for Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County

POSITION OVERVIEW:

A Food Service Worker 1 NCS position is a Part Time position that will assist the Cook II and the Cook I positions in the Nutrition Department. The position is a 5 hour per day work schedule with a 15 minute break. This positions responsibilities include; Hot & Cold Quantity Food Production with pre-prepping and minimal cooking for the cooks, dishwashing skills, daily, weekly & monthly cleaning duties with safety & sanitation requirements being followed. A 3-hour serve safe class is required for all employees to attend that is free of charge to the employee. All Policy & Procedures are enforced through the Department on Aging Program Directive to ensure safe, sanitary and quality service to the Senior Citizens of Somerset County. All technical and policy problems are discussed with the Administration and Management officials and change in operating procedures are subject to review and approval.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or GED required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

To perform this job successfully and to possess the knowledge of English, grammar, spelling and writing to express your needs to your supervisor. The ability to follow standardized recipes for quantity production and possess the ability to use measuring equipment as well as large quantity food production equipment (mixers, steamer, convection ovens, dishwasher, potato hopper, meat slicer-grinder and soup kettles)

The ability to follow state regulated menus that consist of a 2 week rotating breakfast, a 4 week rotating lunch and supper menu. The ability to serve correct serving sizes to ensure quality and cost control of the food items on the menu. To follow all Policy & Procedures if the Area Agency on Aging and establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

An employee in this classification is responsible for performing assignments that are quantity food production related and carried out in accordance with established federal, state and local regulations and polices. Specific job duties include the following:

1. Preheats steam tables for hot food distribution.

2. Works tray line serving seniors for the lunch meal.

3. Works the tray line for the homebound distribution.

4. Plates salads, desserts, counts milk and margarine/bread for each center.

5. Sets up the counter/table area for lunch and replenishes it as needed.

6. Completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties.

7. Packages home delivered meal bags each day.

8. Works dish machine- washing, rinsing and putting clean dishes away.

9. Washes containers/pots and pans as needed in the department.

10. Tabulates correct amounts of food for each homebound route to be dipped out.

11. Packages cases with weekend frozen meals for distribution.

12. Completes and records temperature refrigerator and freezer logs.

13. Other duties assigned by supervisor.
