Booster Club Meeting Minutes – February 15, 2016

Attendees: Mark Fischer, Dorothy Dittemore, Chris Smith, Doug Miller, John Paul, Patrick Padden, Mark Rogers, Jen Fischer, Rocco Serafini, Dan Massarelli, Rich Soltis

I.  Sports update – Doug Miller

Girls Basketball: On February 6th Coach Gary Isler was presented the game ball from his recent 400th career win. The girls finished the regular season with a 16-6 record and entered the tournament as the #2 seed in the Struthers District. A “BIG SHOUT OUT” to the entire team and coaching staff for winning their 1st District Title in 15 years with a 50-47 victory over South Range!

Boys Basketball: The boys finished the regular season with a 13-7 record and entered the tournament as the #4 seed in the Salem District. The team was upset in the 1st round by a hot- shooting Fairless team and finished a respectable 13-8 on the campaign.

Wrestling: The boys sustained some injuries during the season and finish out the year with only 3 wrestlers. Congratulations to Luke Ezzo for picking up career victory #100 at Orrville. Great job to Nick Cianciola for qualifying for the District Tournament and for finishing it with a 6th place finish. Congrats to Luke Ezzo for qualifying as an alternate.

Bowling: Special recognition goes out to Junior Taryn Smith for qualifying for Districts.

Swimming: Girls finished the regular season with a 13-2 record and the boys rounded out the year at 15-1. Between the two teams they attained 8 new school records, 2 county records and 27 swimmers qualified for Districts. The girls finished 1st at Sectionals. It was the girls 3rd Sectional title in the past 5 years under Coach Rogers. The boys finished 3rd at Sectionals. 100% of the team swam lifetime bests! The girls & boys teams had 6 individual qualifiers and 3 relays that went to the Districts meet at Cleveland State. New varsity records set at the District meet were as follows: 200 Medley Relay –Elleson Harper, Kasie Perretta, Sarah Hawk & Gabby Butz. 200 Free - Gabby Butz. 100 Back – Elleson Harper. 100 Breast – Kasie Perretta. 400 Free Relay – Joey Mullen, Matthew Mazey, Gregory Zuniga & Ben Zuniga. Kasie Perretta qualified in the 100 Breast for the DII State Meet. Congratulations to each and every swimmer for your outstanding accomplishments this season!

Cheerleaders: The girls have been doing a phenomenal job all year long in showing their school spirit & pride by supporting the different sporting and school events.

Miscellaneous: Luke Stuffel signed a national letter of intent to continue his education and play football at Findlay University. Rachel Reolfi signed a national letter of intent to further her education and run cross country and track at Carnegie Mellon.

II.  Night at the Races recap – Mark Fischer

A.  Need to do a better job of getting the word out to the alumni for upcoming events.

1.  Continue to utilize the CCHS Facebook, website and newsletters.

B.  Decided to keep the venue and race group (Doog’s & auctioneer the same for next year’s event).

C.  Keep the crowd capped at 250 people.

D.  Lessons learned.

1.  Need to have chips & pretzels before event starts.

2.  Desserts/cookie trays available for after dinner.

3.  Assigned seating (tables of 10 can request to sit together).

a.  List names of people you want to sit with on the back of the ticket.

4.  Misunderstanding that the open bar was figured into the $22 per head/ticket price.

a.  Bar bill was separate and the total billing was $2,111.70. Worked out to about $30 per head/ticket. We ended up netting about $20 profit per ticket.

5.  Need to target a date for next year’s event. January 14th, 21st or 28th. Need to book in advance to secure Elm Ridge and Doog’s team.

a.  Pick date and have athletic events scheduled around the event. Have tickets printed and available for sale prior to December.

E.  The event was a tremendous success financially

1.  Keep price for next year’s event locked in at $50 per ticket.

2.  Increase race sponsorship from $25 to $100 per race.

3.  Increase price of naming a horse to a flat rate of $20 per horse (as opposed to $15 per 1 horse or $25 for 2 horses).

4.  No raffle or auction baskets.

5.  Limit it to 3 real nice “live” auction items.

6.  Doors open at 6pm & dinner served at 6:30pm.

7.  Net profit was about $16,500 (after the Booster Club $500 donation to the St. Mike’s event). Our net goal was $10,000 and our stretch goal was $12,000.

III.  The booster club would like to be in a positon to be able to start contributing to the funding of a new track & turf in the stadium.

IV.  Softball Field Renovations – Southway came out and submitted a bid.

V.  $35 annual membership fee for the Booster Club. Each year the membership runs from August to August (ex. This year’s membership was good for the 2015-2016 school year).

A.  Membership cards will be utilized for the 2016-2017 school year to signify the yearly renewal.
