Committee Reports –
Principal’s report (Cindy Larry)
Today, faculty met with students at lunch to go over how they performed last year and this year in the assessment process and their own learning. Last year we had room for growth but there was alot of testing and kids seemed to have test fatigue. There was a discussion about what they were tested on and why they are being tested and will do goal setting. There was less summer regression this year. In comparison to other schools, we lead the way in math. It was discussed that the kids worked hard and earned a celebration. The students are going to get an hour of time on the ½ day. Soon the faculty will meet with each student one on one in order to set personal goals.
A question was raised about motivating the students for testing. Ms. Larry confirmed that motivation will be revisited before the students test again in January. They will plan another “meeting/assembly” before the next exam to reinforce the importance and excitement of the students to do well.
Tuesday, teachers will meet with curriculum coordinators within their own department on the school improvement day.
7th grade will be going to the high school for the Speak for the Silent assembly on bullying on 10/12/16. This fits in with the 7th grade Health Curriculum. The assembly will have a very impactful message with social workers and psychologists available.
Schoology – How is it going? Parents think it is going well. Please have all teachers who run groups post to Schoology. It is very helpful to keep parents organized and on track. Ms. Larry will look into assignments that may be labeled as past due when they are actually waiting for teacher grade input.
Fundraising (Taryn Hobson - Chair)
Cookie Dough fundraiser - sale ends October 7th and pick up is November 10th from after school until 6 p.m.
Taryn is working on limos and how many will be needed. Last year, the limo rides were split up by 6th grade and 7th and 8th grade. Currently online orders are at $540. How to order online was discussed as directions are on the back of the packet. Orders are due October 7thand pick up is November 10th from after school until 6 pm. A reminder will go out from Ms. Larryon 10/5 to turn in forms by Friday (phone and email blast).
Hospitality/Staff Appreciation (Karen Sporny and Janine Stuck – Co-chairs)
Thank you to the committee and to those who donated items for the dinner for parent/teacher conferences! Great job!
Spirit Wear (Connie Wicks - Chair)
Spirit wear be online soon and all can view it. Janor sports will work on a separate store for the staff with higher end merchandise. We agreed on the separate store and Connie can go ahead and get info out. A new dry fit sweatshirt with a media pocket in adult sizes only was added this year. They run on the larger side. Connie will coordinate with Janor Sports. She should have staff site by tomorrow.
Dinning Out (Connie Wicks – Chair)
Chipotle Night raised $1574.50. Thank you to Connie Wicks for scheduling theevent! Thank you to the administration and teachers for your support! Thankyou to all of the families who participated! What a huge success!
Connie will work on another Chipotle dining out in the spring for PBIS. She is going to target Chili’s for November as it may be a good idea because the high school football fundraiser has a coupon for Chili’s so families can use the coupon and we can promote.
Various restaurants and their percentage of donation were discussed.
Future months – Connie mentioned that Pizza is easy (Papa Savarios). McDonald’s night was discussed but we need to get teacher commitment. Teachers are literally at the drive through window handing out food.
PBIS –(Mr. Thornton and Ms. Hendricks)
Dog Pound Day is October 14thand volunteers are needed. Melissa will coordinate with Mr. Thornton to get dates put on the Herget Website calendar.
Teacher Representative (Teacher leader)
Teacher leaders will be joining us by departments (i.e. LA, math, SS, Science, etc.).
SCAC Representative (Stacey Caragher)
The first meeting is tomorrow, 10-5-16.
Huskies Halloween Hangout
We are promoting the Husky Halloween Hangout which will be on October 21st (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm). Volunteers will be needed to run games and scare spots. We have student volunteers from surrounding high schools but would love to have parents and staff involved as well. You can sign up on signup.com.
