A Call to Action for Mayors and Elected Officials
In many parts of the country, particularly those with vibrant local economies, automotive 'gridlock' is rapidly becoming an unattractive fact of life. Traffic and parking congestion are accompanied by decreasing air quality and deteriorating road and bridge surfaces due to the greatly increased use of single-occupancy automobiles for daily transportation.
Your administration holds the key to an economical, efficient and fun way to commute, by supporting the 21st3rd annual worldwide Ride to Work Day on Monday, June 168th, 20124. On this day, motorcycle and scooter riders seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation, and more public and government awareness of the positive value of riding. Please sign-up in support of Ride to Work and help champion the positive public benefits of riding.
Support for Ride to Work Day:
- Reduces traffic and parking congestion
- Consumes far less resources per mile than most other automobiles
- Results in less pollution than commuting in a larger vehicle
- Is less destructive to road surfaces and bridges
- Allows commuters to get to work (and back home) faster
- Helps make people more alert and engaged
- Demonstrates motorcycling as a social good
Join the United States Congress members of the Congressional Motorcycle Safety Caucus, as well as hundreds of other communities and organizations, along with millions of motorcyclists worldwide in support of Ride to Work Day, and stay informed about the continued benefits of supporting daily motorcycle and scooter commuting. Your administration and city can support and encourage this popular grass-roots event by issuing an official proclamation. To encourage riding, some cities also announce that on this day motorcycles and scooters may park at municipal ramps and metered spaces without charge.

Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
