LOCAL LEAGUE RULES

EXCEPTIONS / ADDITIONS / MODIFICATIONS

1) Games

A ) Shall be 6 innings long, weather and daylight permitting, losing team must bat at least 4 times

for an official game. 15 RUN Mercy rule is in effect after 4 completed innings.

(Coaches may elect to continue without further score keeping.)

B ) Tie games and time or weather shortened games shall be rescheduled and finished ASAP.

Non playoff games can end in a tie.

C ) Shall be started on time .Minimum 8 players to start game. No forfeits, Reschedule!!

D ) Home team will use the 1st base dugout or bench.

E) Will be played with an 11-inch ball pitched from 35 feet.

2) Innings

A ) Shall consist of 3 outs or a maximum of 5 runs. ALL plays will continue until completed. If more than 5 runs score the play should be completed but only 5 runs will count.

B ) 6th inning shall be completed only after the defensive team records 3 outs.

C ) No new innings shall be started after I hour & 45 minutes .

WHEN GAMES ARE SCHEDULED EVERY 2 HOURS AS IS THE CASE ON MOST SATURDAYS,

NO NEW INNINGS SHOULD START AFTER AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES TO INSURE

WE STAY ON SCHEDULE

D ) If time or darkness shortens the game, Rule 2b may be followed prior to the start of

4TH or 5th inning if agreed upon by managers

E ) ANY INNING TO STARTING AFTER 7:45PM WILL BE THE LAST INNING AND WILL

REMAIN A 5 RUN INNING, OR 3 OUTS, WHICH EVER OCCURS FIRST. NO NEW INNINGS

STARTED AFTER 8PM. THIS TO ENSURE SAFETY BY MAKING SURE THE GAME ENDS

BEFORE IT IS TOO DARK TO CONTINUE SAFELY.

** ) THE ABOVE EXCEPTIONS AND THE MERCY RULE ARE THE ONLY REASONS A GAME

SHOULD END BEFORE THE COMPLETION OF 6 INNINGS.

3) Players

A ) shall arrive 30 minutes early in complete “proper” uniform ;shirts tucked in and hats on frontward.

B ) No metal cleats !!! No jewelry !!!

C ) No unregistered players to play or practice with team.

D ) shall notify Manager or Coach 2 hrs in advance if unable to attend a game or practice.

D+) Shall attend a minimum of 4 Pre Season practices to allow coaches to evaluate players

readiness to react to infield action in a game.

E) Shall remain seated in dugout when not on deck or warming up.

PLAYERS CONTINUED

F) Shall wear helmets; in on-deck circle; at bat; while on base or running the base paths.

G) Shall not direct negative comments or cheers at any players, coaches, or umpires.

H) Shall not argue with the umpires (abusive language and/or actions will not be tolerated).

I) Shall not throw their bat (after 1st warning, umpire will call batter out).

J) Shall only use aluminum bats made officially for softball.

K ) MUST slide or give themselves up on tag plays. Flagrant collisions will result in an out and ejection. Catcher must leave access to home plate if no play or not in possession of the ball . (revision for 2008)

L) May Bunt only after proper instruction from coaching staff. (1st practice, start teaching Bunting)

M) May lead after the ball crosses the plate,

N ) MAY STEAL 3RD BASE ONLY for first half of the season. Second half may steal 2nd and 3rd base.

O ) MAY NOT ADVANCE FROM 1ST OTHER THAN A WALK OR HIT BALL BY THE FOLLOWING BATTER UNTIL 2ND HALF OF THE SEASON WHEN STEALING 2ND IS PERMITTED.

CAN ONLY STEAL ONE BASE PER PITCHED BALL. Example, can not steal 2nd, then 3rd on an overthrow to 2nd.

MAY NOT ADVANCE FROM 3RD OTHER THAN A HIT BALL OR FORCE WALK. * THERE IS NO DROP THIRD STRIKE.

P) May advance only one base on over throws out of bounds, or stuck in or under fences or backstop.

Q ) NO INFIELD FLY rule.

R) Shall not be intentionally walked.

4) Fielders

A ) All players meet on team bench at the conclusion of game until dismissed by coach.

B) Shall play in proper 6 infield and 4 outfield positions (outfielders must begin each play in the grass approximately 10 feet from the infield cutout) for a max of 10 fielders.

C) Shall be instructed to be in the READY POSITION before every pitch.

D) A mouth guard is recommended for pitchers, catchers and those players wearing braces.

5) Pitchers

A ) May pitch a maximum of 4 innings per game and up to 10 innings in a week. Monday - Sunday.

B ) Shall stay in contact with the pitchers plate until the release of each pitch.(1 forward step allowed)

C ) Shall have control of the softball inside the pitchers circle to stop play. Any base runner advancing to the next base may continue or retreat at her own risk.

D) Must use a legal pitching motion from 35 feet. SEE BABE RUTH RULE BOOK for complete details.

E) 2 batters hit by pitcher in one inning or 3 hit by pitcher in a game, the pitcher is to be removed.

F ) Once a pitcher has been removed from pitching, she may not return in that game as a pitcher.

6) Line-up

A ) All players present will be included in the batting rotation.

F) All players will field a defensive position for a minimum of half the game. The exact position will be up to the discretion of the manager. (free substitution) Players should get to play different positions through out the season.

G ) Shall be recorded in score book and triplicate sheets ready for umpires and opposing team 5 min. prior to start time.

H ) Score books must be kept in detail by both teams. (Include: date, time, location, teams, and umpires)

I ) HOME TEAM keeps the official book.

7) Umpires

A ) Shall be supplied by the league.

B ) Shall enforce all BABE RUTH RULES AND REGULATIONS

including league additions and exceptions

C ) Shall suspend play until unruly or abusive coaches, players or

spectators are removed from the field.

D ) DECISION ON JUDGMENT CALLS IS FINAL !! Conference

with coaches will settle rule questions.

E ) Protests must be written and filed with the league director within 48hrs.

F) Shall ask coaches to clear the field 5 rnin. prior to start time and hand in line-ups.

Shall keep the game moving making sure it starts on time and making sure a coach will catch for

The pitchers warm up throws if the catcher is not ready. Will keep the number of warm up throws to

Regulation. (no more than one minute may be used to deliver no more than 5 balls to the a catcher)

G ) Shall sign both scorebooks at end of games.

8) Coaches

A ) Shall be responsible for providing a safe enjoyable atmosphere for the instruction and improvement of every player.

B ) Shall arrive early to set-up field : bases ; lines ; rake as needed and to run players through proper warm-up drills to prepare for game to start on time.(home team is responsible for set-up and return of bases.)

C ) Shall require players to refrain from any unsportsmanlike behavior, wear and use proper protective equipment, clean dugout and bench areas so as to leave the field in a suitable condition .

D ) Shall report any problems or injuries, to the league director immediately following the game or practice.

E) SHALL CARRY PLAYER MEDICAL FORMS AND EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS AT ALL TIMES!
