Old Business

This was discussed due to the changeover in officers and active members of the groups involved. It was noted that the process seems to be going very slowly already.

Also noted was the sale of ducks for the upcoming Duck Race will be at the library during the month of May. New games will be offered at the event for the children and The Village Store will be open for business on the day of the race. Prizes will be awarded in several categories for the best decorated ducks.

There will be NO BOOK SALE IN JUNE.

Trustee Matters

Update on Art Project – Mel spoke recently to Linda Sharp about Art Program. They are currently putting out feelers to local artists. They would also like to establish a plan of action.

Update on Middle School Library Project – Diane reported that they will be heading to the library tomorrow to begin the process of weeding out unusable, moldy and outdated books. Also attending will be Johnna and Marcia.

Director’s Report

A grant of $2,800 was awarded from Cape Cod Five to purchase new equipment for the technology area.

The Director is now seeking grant funding for digitizing all of our newspapers and periodicals. This would be a huge undertaking, costing close to $10,000.

The budget for FY2018 is firming up, according to the Director. The money will allow the hiring of one more staff member. Since this will not aid in the recertification process, the Director has decided to use the money to increase the hours of the staff already employed. This seems to be a great idea, since the staff hours were previously cut.

The Director has also created a new schedule of operating hours for review and approval. With the new schedule and added hours, this may put the library on the right path for recertification. Along with this plan, comes the need for firm commitments from the Friends and the Foundation for financial assistance. The Director’s dogged determination, hard work and optimistic attitude about recertification was a welcome change for the BoLT.
