Role: Support Worker
Locations available: Redbridge
Salary: For full time 36 hours per week contract, the salary is £17,600 (made up of basic salary of £16,000 plus (10% shift allowance).
If a NVQ 3 (or equivalent, the salary will be £17,984 (made up of basic salary of £16,350 plus10% shift allowance).
Salary will be pro-rata for Part-time work.
Hourly rate (for Flexible Support Workers) £9.40 per hour
Additional payments are made for sleep in shifts, weekend shifts and bank holidays
Types of work available at Three Cs
Permanent Full-time (36 Hour per week contract)
Permanent Part-time (minimum 16 hours per week)
Flexible Support Worker (no fixed hours, Flexible Support Workers work as and when they are needed.
Purpose of role: To support people with learning disabilities and/or mental health challenges to have control over and choice about their lives and to contribute to the community as equal citizens.
You must demonstrate the right attitude to support peoplepeople with learning difficulties and mental health challenges. We would prefer people with experience in a paid or voluntary capacity. but the right attitude is more important
You are required to get to know the people we support, what is important to them and how they want to be supported so that they are in control of the support they get, to maintain and develop skills with personal care, participation in day to day activities, health and well-being, education and employment. You must be willing and able to work with people who have challenging behaviour.
A person-centred approach to working is essential. You must be adequately IT literate to be able the internet.andto use emails for work related communication.You must be willingto work flexible hours to meet the demands of the services.
You will be required to work flexible hours, including night cover, evenings, weekends, early mornings, late nights, sleeping-ins and bank holidays and be responsive to the needs of the service as a whole including people we support on holiday as required. This may include supporting people with a learning disability to enjoy an occasional person centred weekend break away from home.
Job Description
- Get to know the people (i.e. people supported), what’s important to them and how they want to be supported so they are in control of the support they get to maintain and develop skills with personal care, participation in day to day activities, health and well-being, education and employment
- Ensure people are treated with dignity and respect at all times and their confidentiality is maintained
- Give people information, in ways they can understand, so they can make decisions and be encouraged to have dreams and aspirations
- Enable people to have a voice and be heard, whether they can speak or not and act on what they communicate
- Help people to learn new things (if they want to) and work out what they could do (which might not have been done before) safely. Support them to take planned risks in their lives
- Teach people skills as part of a planned and structured skills teaching programme.
- Contribute to developing person centred plans for each person and to put these plans into action
- Enable people to be a part of the community by supporting people to access appropriate services (leisure, health, work etc)
- Be professional when talking to friends, family and representatives from other organisations
- Keep people supported to be safe and free from exploitation by ensuring that all Three Cs and regulators’ policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
- Keep records and paperwork up to date and accurate. Keep electronic records and paperwork up to date and accurate.
- Receive regular, one to one supervision and an annual appraisal and undertake training as needed to meet Three Cs requirements and other standards.
- To participate in team meetings, team days and any reviews as necessary
- To drive vehicles of people we support and the service, where needed.
- To work flexibly including weekends ,early morning and late nights, and be responsive to the needs of the service as a whole.

Skills and ability

- A willingness to learn about people with learning disability and mental health, preferably with an NVQ Level 2 or willing to undertake QCF Level-3 (I)
- Work in a flexible way, plan own time effectively and adapt your approach as situations/people change (I)
- Commitment to providing a quality service and be a positive role model to people supported (I)
- Communicate effectively and accurately in all situations, both verbally (I) and in writing (A) and have good IT & numeracy skills (I)
- Work flexible shifts, including night cover, early morning, evenings, weekends and bank holidays (I)
- Numerate and literate in order to handle money and medication
- The issues relating to equal opportunities and the effect upon people we support and staff (I)
- Supporting people with complex and challenging needs and mental health problems in a way which shows respect and increases their choices, skills and independence (I)
- Passing on skills to develop people supported (I)
- Contributing effectively in person centred planning, care programme approach and other review meetings as appropriate (I)
- Minimum of 1 year experience of working with people with learning difficulties and mental health needs in paid or voluntary capacity OR demonstrates transferrable skills (A)
