Marine Science Students Win Fellowships

St. Petersburg, FL. (August 20, 2004) Providing fellowships for the best and brightest of USF’s Marine Science students allows them to continue their graduate studies, which helps to find answers to the world’s environmental problems. Award ceremonies will be held on Friday, August 27, 2004 at 11:00 am in Florida Marine Research Institutes’, Karen Steidinger Auditorium. Recipients are:

·  Kelly Halimeda Kilbourne, Davis, CA, a doctoral student in geological (paleontology) oceanography received the Elsie and William Knight, Jr. Endowed Fellowship.

·  Mandy L. H. Cook, Morgantown, WV, a doctoral student in biological oceanography, received the Jack Lake Endowed Fellowship.

·  Ester Quintana-Rizzo, Guatemala City, Guatemala, a doctoral student in biological oceanography, received the Robert M. Garrels Endowed Fellowship.

·  Brian P. Darrow, St. Louis, MO, student in biological oceanography, received the Gulf Oceanographic Charitable Trust Endowed Fellowship.

·  Laura A. Fauver, Staunton, VA, a master’s degree student in geological oceanography, received the Gulf Oceanographic Charitable Trust Endowed Fellowship.

·  Jennifer M. Smith, Portland, OR, a doctoral student in geological oceanography, received the St. Petersburg Progress Endowed Fellowship in Coastal Science.

·  Bryan James McCloskey, Atchison, KS, a doctoral student in biological oceanography, received the Paul L. Getting Memorial Endowed Fellowship.

·  William Noland Elsaesser, Inglewood, CO, a master’s degree student in biological oceanography, received the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club Endowed Fellowship.

·  Monica L. Wolfson, Louisville, KY, a master’s degree student in geological oceanography, received the Murtagh Fellowship.

·  Mindy J. Robinson, Friendsville, Maryland, a master’s degree student in physical oceanography, received the Von Rosenstiel Fellowship.

·  Gregory Scott Ellis, Naples, FL, a doctoral student in chemical oceanography, received the Von Rosenstiel Fellowship.

·  Sarah H. Lucchesi, Oakham, MA, a master’s degree student in biological oceanography, received the Von Rosenstiel Fellowship.

·  Julie N. Richey, Hamilton, OH, a doctoral student in physical oceanography, received the Von Rosenstiel Fellowship.

·  Marina Marrari, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a master’s degree student in biological oceanography, received the Carl Riggs Fellowship.

·  Brandon M. Casper, Cincinnati, OH, a doctoral student in biological oceanography, received the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Fellowship.

·  Heather A. Broadbent, Saline, MI, a master’s degree student in biological oceanography, received the C. W. Bill Young Fellowship.

·  Jason M. Lenes, Ogdensburg, NY, a doctoral student in biological oceanography, received the Wachovia Fellowship.

·  Ruoying He, Wuxi, China, who earned a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, received the Sackett Prize for Innovative Research.
