Title:Policy and Campaigns Officer

Department: Policy and Engagement

Reports to: Director of Policy and Engagement

Main function:The Policy and Campaigns Officer will be responsible for developing effective and high impact campaigns on behalf of Inspire. As a member of the Policy and Engagement Team, the post holder will contribute to the provision of a professional, modern, ethical and authentic needs driven service to help meet organisational requirements and objectives.

Main duties and responsibilities are to:

  1. Clarity of Purpose
  1. Manage media contacts – to be the first point of contact for all media enquiries, responding to requests from media quickly and accurately.
  2. Actively seek to place positive editorial inputs in the local, regional and national media to enhance and heighten Inspire’s profile and work to minimise any unfavourable media coverage.
  3. Develop and manage an effective PR and media monitoring and evaluation system.
  4. Develop and manage a library of resources for use in all communication channels– e.g. case studies, lived experiences, information leaflets in various forms – written, verbal, dvd, podcasts, features etc.
  5. Write, prepare and ensure approval for all written material for public release i.e. speeches, press releases, articles.
  6. Stay informed of current policy developments in relation to the work of Inspire in NI an ROI and provide briefings on same.
  7. Respond to NI and ROI policy consultations on behalf of Inspire and actively seek opportunities to involve Inspire in co-design or service design.
  8. Develop effective and impactful campaigns on key issues important to Inspire as defined in our Policy Priorities document and as issues arise.
  9. Ensure Inspire has effective presence in key international campaigns including but not limited to World Mental Health Day and Alcohol Awareness Week.
  10. Develop and maintain Inspires network of Inspiration Points.
  11. Design and implement tracking measures for the response and cost/benefits of any awareness campaigns.
  12. Monitor expenditure against approved budgets in relation to PR and communication activities.

  1. Develop professional working relationships and networks with industry bodies in NI and Ireland.
  2. Work closely with the Digital Communications Officer to ensure synergy with Inspires digital communications strategy and online presence.

  1. Provide media and communications support and advice to Inspire staff and individual services.
  2. Have a clear understanding of the critical role of internal and external relationships.
  3. Acknowledge, recognise and respect the expertise and contribution of others.

  5. Engage with managers and peers across Inspire.
